Does any live in NYC?

For some reason I have this urge to go and live in NYC for a while. Not for the rest of my life, just for a while though. Why? I think it's because its so different from everything around here. South Jersey really is a hole and maybe I need to get out and do things completely different and live a different life for a while. I might absolutely hate it, i dunno but I think it's worth doing for a while. What do you think?

 
I grew up in Brooklyn (Bay Ridge) and I liked it for the most part. I lived in downtown Manhatten for the first 8 years of my life which was okay, (it's now Chinatown).
 
i'm assuming you mean manhattan when you refer to nyc....it's cool...i grew up in ny...it's expensive, but that's the exchange for wanting to live in the city...you learn to deal with the small space and maximize what you got...
 
As an ex-New Yorker who has move out of that god forsaken living hell, my advice is:
Don't Do It!! NOBODY wants to be in NY. EVERYBODY, despite what they may say publicly, wants out. Other than the pizza, (and the Yankees), it's a dirty toilet. Hence, there is even a borough named Flushing. And how appropriate the Mets play there!

Are you like John Rocker or something? First off Flushing is not a borough, it's a section of Queens. Second, don't diss the Mets. Third, don't diss NY, capice?
 
I went to school in the city for 4 years and I loved it! The only problem was that everything was too expensive... especially for a student.

I still go in regularly to hang out. Much better than the burbs.
 
waaay to expensive, dirty vvvverrry smelly in the spring & summer time. trash everywhere. absoluteley horrible place to live. i will tell yo uone thing though...you catch a cold in NYC, and live through it....no other virus in any other state will give you hard time again!!!
i lived in queens and commuted to Manhattan for a year...the worst experience ever! Makes me want to live in Alaska...

New York is for people with personality and a desire to go out an have fun. There is always something to do no matter what you are into.

You want to learn origami at midnight on Sunday? No problem.

You want to see the Yankees beat up on the Mets? No problem 😉

You want to go to a different restaurant every night for five years? No problem

The catch is that for $1500/month you get a Studio apartment and everything is expensive. If you have a good job and are young I highly recommend a few years in New York.
 
I grew up in Bay Ridge, and now I live in Connecticut. I'll tell you one thing, you wouldn't drag me back to NYC even with a thousand horses. My life is so much better now, that I live in subburbs. Nevertheless, nothing beats spending a day or two in the city. As long as it's not every day.

John Rocker? No, but the reason his comments received such a reaction is because of their accuracy.
The Mets? They deserve to be dissed. Look at 'em. They suck big time.
Don't diss NY? OK, I'll meet you on that one. But tell me, how many people have you known who have had to leave the stresses of living in, say, New Mexico, and rush back to live in Queens?
There's a reason the population of that area shows a decline with every census. People can't get out of there fast enough.
 
I live in Queens, and the only reason why the population keeps on decreasing has to be from all the deported illegals. Our subway system might not be the cleanest out there, but how many other cities can you name have 24-hour public transportation?
NYC is a great place to live. 8 million people can't be wrong.

Sure they can... Lol... Most people who think NYC is the best place on earth never lived elsewhere. Don't get me wrong, I'll always remain a New Yorker, it's just ever since I moved out my life is so much easier. Oh yeah, and I can afford a car 🙂

To call NYC hell on Earth is ridiculous. Where do you hail from that's so heavenly?
I don't make that much money, but I'm living comfortably here. I'm a product of big city upbringing, so I have no problem at all with all the little quirks that freak you guys out. Once I'm done with school, I'll be able to enter a huge job market here. You can't say that about the burbs.
 
i recently moved out of NYC to try the opposite lifestyle w/o the hussle and bussle...and to tell you the truth, i like it..but at the same time i still feel the urge to have that hussle and bussle in my life...plus in regards to hanging out, nothing really compares to NYC, so many 24 places or places that close at 4am, 10am or even 12pm the next day...i've been to west coast and london and right now i'm in tx...don't get me wrong, they're all great places, but you'll need a car, there's no 24/7 subway and it's a lot harder to get a cab in the middle of the night unlike in manhattan...so if your out partying, time to find a designated driver...and in tx the alchohol stops getting served at 2am 🙁...in london, 11pm *DOH* :frown:
 
New York rules, plain and simple. To me, it's the best city in the world. A lot of people come here, burn out, and leave. That's cool. I was born in the Bronx and have lived all around NY my entire life. I moved out to Cali for a year. It was beautiful out there but &quot;home is where the heart is&quot; I guess.

I understand people not wanting to live here. It's hectic, there is a lot of grungy people/places, and it's just too fast paced for some. That's cool. But to call NY a toliet is just uncalled for.

I'd rather live in a place where &quot;anything can happen&quot; than some boring town where everyone is escaping the stress of the city. To each his own. Man, I am full of cliches today. 🙂

The Mets rock BTW! I used to like the Yankees 'til I came to the conclusion that they are the Microsoft of the baseball industry. Screw them 😛

Looks like the population of the city is increasing to me, at a faster rate even.
 
I lived in NYC for a summer. I liked the city a lot, but didn't like the general rudeness of the people (my experience) Made living there unpleasant.
 
I've lived in NY for summer... lived in Ardsley Westchester and commuted into the city... worked in the Village..

and as Mwilding says... it's the city for people like me who wake up at 2AM bored as hell on a tuesday night... dying for something to do....

I'm moving up there in a couple years... after I get my degree🙂
