AnyDVD lets you strip out the extra bull right off the bat in realtime. You can jump straight to the menu or go direct to the first chapter, for both blu-ray and DVD.

<3 AnyDVD.

as annoying as all of this is, I'm more annoyed by the Blu Ray tech promo ads on every god damn Blu Ray disc.

Ummm, I already have a fucking Blu Ray player; stop forcing this useless shit down my throat.

yes...totally agree.

last night I watched Due Date. I think there were 2 blu-ray ads back to back and then some trailers for other movies. I couldn't skip any of it and the only option was to fast forward. Even worse was that at then end of each ad, there was a period of like 10 seconds or so of black screen and nothing worked - FF, skip, etc.

Am I missing something? 16 mins to avoid 5 mins of previews?

I don't come home from the Redbox and watch it immediately so it takes only a few seconds to start the process and you walk away. When you get around to watching the movie later it is ready to go. Plus I can do something else instead of sitting there watching BS.

Does menu not work for you folks? If I hit play in whatever software I'm using for playback, I get the trailers/comings. Whereas, if I select menu and play movie, I skip all the ads and promos.

I had one that you couldn't fast forward, skip or ANYTHING.....and the previews were 20 MINUTES LONG! It took 20 fucking minutes to get to the menu!!! Ridiculous.

And they wonder why people pirate movies.

Actually it can be easier and quicker.

10 minutes to rip and copy a DVD versus 15 minutes to watch the preview.

ah, nowadays with modern CPU's one can encode a movie probably pretty quickly, even with compression, relative to what was available circa ~2003-4. back in the day, this process might have taken about an hour if compression was involved.

we're talking about actual disks in dedicated players, not playing on your pc or from ripped copy.

Ripping the disc is both illegal and, from my perspective, unnecessarily inconvenient. Honestly I watch almost no actual DVDs anymore anyway, and there's no way ripping a blu ray is that fast (plus I don't have a blu-ray burner). I have watched at least 300-400 blu ray discs and have never seen one where I couldn't at least FFWD past the previews anyway, even if I couldn't skip them with a single button-press.

Yeah not unusual. They disable all the controls to force you to watch the ads. Used to be more common on DVDs I think and it's VERY common on Blu-Rays

I only own 3 blu-rays but I've rented hundreds. Every single one so far had unskipable ads.

Many of my owned DVD's do as well.

Pretty common, on blu-rays anyway, pisses me off.

This is how things work these days:

But you can fast forward on the ones you buy right. I thought it was only rented ones that blocked fast forwarding.

Yeah. The pic in this thread says it all. What the fuck is the point of all those FBI warnings when the pirated editions just have those ripped out. lol

If I send $20+ on a disk they better let me fast forward through the ads. I haven't bought a DVD or BluRay in years and looks like I never will again.

20 dollars per view is nothing to the company. MOST of their money comes from ads. Ditto TV. And it looks like games are moving in that direction.
