She's the One - 6.5/10(Netflix): The only reason I watched it was because I have owned the Sound Track to it for 12ish years now. It was Written/Performed by Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers and as such is a solid album(if you like Tom Petty...I suppose).

Anyway, the Story is pretty decent, although the Title and the Story don't really go together. It's a relationship tale, but not really a Romance as the title might suggest. It's about a Father and his 2 Sons and all their misfortunes(for lack of a better term) with women. I loled often and the Acting was pretty solid from all the interesting Characters, so it was enjoyable to watch, but one could not see it and not really miss out on anything.

Dark Shadows: 4/10

The first half was alright, yet it went to a messy plays afterwards.

Dark Shadows - 7.5/10

Caught an early screening. Pretty good movie, plenty of laughs in between but it's a pretty "normal" movie compared to the pairs' other works. Not as much cinematography as I expected but man, Depp is the fucking shit
.

I gave this movie a shot because of the good review that I quoted, but my god... it was awful. I knew from the moment that they played the entirety of The Moody Blue's Nights in White Satin that the movie wouldn't be good. Don't get me wrong... I think it's a rather beautiful song, but it just didn't fit that scene... at all. The fact that they would throw the song in there haphazardly gave me the idea that the whole thing would just be a giant mess.

To sum it up, the comedy wasn't good enough for it to be a comedy (pretty much all the "funny" scenes were in the trailer), and lacked enough emotion to be a good drama. In fact, the two aspects of the movie regularly worked against each other. Barnabus' random meetings with the protagonist (Angelique) usually turned into silly banter and/or silly room-wrecking romps (as shown in the trailer).

It feels like one of those elementary films that tries to say, "you need to dislike this person!", but never really gives you a reason why. It reminds me of the game Blue Dragon, which I tried to like the story, but I couldn't help but feel that the enemy (Nene) was simply portrayed as a giant douche (really the only word to use to describe his character), but they failed at dramatic tension to truly make them a detestable character. It's really the same concept.

In short, DO NOT SEE THIS MOVIE.

Drive - 8/10

Compellingly watchable movie, impossible to discuss without giving away too much.

Avengers - 7.2/10 - I'll give this one another shot in the future... lots of non-movie related factors hurt this one for me: theater full of teenagers, i think the projector was not bright enough (after adding on 3d glasses), theater was too hot, and I was tired going into it. It was too long. They did themselves a favor taking the mega-sequel approach. Being able to introduce a villain and have the audience already recognize them and their associated villainry is a huge shortcut in character development, same goes for all the protagonists. Wouldn't otherwise work trying to develop all the heroes and split the screen time.

Afterwards my wife was like, 'i miss our theater', and i was like :D been trying to justify that and win her over on it for 2 years now! she is finally seeing the light!

Dark Shadows 6.5/10 If it wasn't for Johnny Depp's acting, it would have been a 4 or 5. Outstanding acting, but I couldn't figure out what the movie wanted to be. Actually, I did figure out in the very last scene what the movie wanted to be - it wanted to be the precursor to Dark Shadows II, and Dark Shadows III. Well, hopefully they don't bother making II. Then again, maybe if they read the reviews of I, they'll realize all the things they lacked. The trailer's hinted at some very funny comedy as a 300 year old vampire is suddenly faced with a completely new world. E.g., what kind of sorcery is this? (the television), and how long until the horses are ready? (We have a Chevy.) Unfortunately, the directors, script writers, etc., didn't take that hint. Even those two scenes had potential for real laughter, but they were so brief that I barely had time to register "that was funny" before something completely unrelated was happening.

Three Stooges 6/10 I laughed really hard at least half a dozen times. Maybe even 10 times I was literally LOL. That works out to once every 9 minutes. The rest of the time, I was bored. I actually made a trip to the concession stand mid movie to avoid the rush during intermission. The original 3 stooges provided far more nyuk's for the buck. I'd give it a 5, but, great casting for the parts of Moe, Larry, and Curly. They did an awesome job - just didn't have much to work with script-wise.

Both of those scenes that you mentioned were also in the trailer. :p

There were a few parts that I wish they would have fleshed out more:

The scene where they "discover" that Barnabus is a vampire. This scene didn't make much sense. He saves the kid from being crushed by the chandelier, and starts burning from being in the sunlight. Everyone just looks at him strangely, and his honey (who had shown quite a bit of affection for him prior to this) just runs away. How do they even know what he is?

The fact that the daughter is actually a werewolf. This was introduced pretty much at the end of the movie, and did absolutely nothing. She fights Angelique for about 10 seconds before she's stricken down like a misbehaving dog (in a somewhat literal sense at that). They could have done a lot more to humanize Barnabus's character by having him discover it earlier on, and those two forming a bond because of their unique problems. This show was essentially based off of an old black and white soap opera... it doesn't hurt to add a little drama.

I never gave the movie a rating, but I would probably give it a 4/10. In my opinion, the terrible script/story really hurt it that much, but the movie does shine in that the sets and such are rather good. It tells me that a better script could have literally been the Midas's Touch for the film. I guess you could say that I wish the movie was a bit more like Edward Scissorhands (another Burton movie starring Johnny Depp).

Avengers: 8/10. A SOLID action movie.

The Hulk made this movie as far as I'm concerned. They did an outstanding job with that character and the end sequences of the movie made up for any of the boring parts. Definitely a good watch if you like action flicks.

Thanks for the update. I know what I am watching tonight.

Your post convinced me to turn it on, I was just going to watch the motel scene and then go to bed. And then it started and I remembered how friggin awesome the whole opening sequence is. Every shot and cut is perfect, every single detail, wow. I ended up watching the whole movie. It's really really great

I just watched The Grey. Loved it.

Great ending, both before and after the credits.

I enjoyed most of the other muppet movies in the past; found this one to be boring.

Ditto. Had a few decent yuks, but the "put on a show to raise funds and save the Muppet Studio from the evil oil exec" premise was just too stupid for adults. Not sure why they went with that.
