A fully grown and healthy male lion in peak condition is more than a match for a pack of hyenas.Originally posted by: ncircle

If thats the video where the Hyena's chace the Lion up the tree, I hardly say the Lion "owns" the Hyena. Quite the opposite.

I like to see a lion taking on a Bear or a Tiger, that would be awesome.

It wouldn't even be a contest with the bear. The bear would have the lion dead in under 5 seconds.
It was discussed here before and someone posted a link to a page that said that back in the 1800s people in California betted on various animal "cock fights". The bookies set up matches between a grizzly bear and some spanish bulls, but eventually gave up on this because everyone always bet on the bear and everyone always won. The bull would charge, the bear would take one swat at it with its paw and break the bull's shoulders. The rest was easy.
So they spent even more money bringing in African lions. Same thing. One swat from a grizzly's paw and the lion was down. Most times the skull was shattered.
Apparently grizzly bears have a bone density that's something like 4x normal. It's like they have skeletons made out of steel, and a paw is just a huge steel club.
And polar bears, while slightly larger, have more slender skulls, thinner bones, and much smaller claws. Just FYI.

Cool video. A male lion chases down a hyena and kills it, then attacks about five hyenas who are eating his dinner and disperses them, mangling one and probably making it his second dinner.

No this is the video where the lion pride (all the girls) are outnumbered by the hyena's by like 5 to one and a female lion gets seperated and surrounded and a male lion comes running in and kicks hyena ass. And I can say that without even seeing it.
According to Animal Planet the males are very very dangerous when they are mad and they get mad when Hyena's start beating up on their pride.
Well I was wrong, it is the dumb one you talked about. They shoudl get the one I talked about. They did show a clip of the one I talked about at the end, they should have showed the whole thing. The male ends up killings six of the hyenas before they all run away from him.
