Linux and Windows refresh rates?

I'm trying to get my monitor (17" DigiView) and my graphics card (Geforce Ti500) to work in Linux with the same refresh rate I got in Windows (I'm very much used to it and can't stand anything else). In Windows its 62.8Khz and 70Hz at 1152x864, I can do 1152x864 in Linux but with a refresh rate of 75Hz.. any ideas? I tried using xvidtune but that didn't yield any good results.

Not to be an ass, but I find it amazing how sensitive some people are to this. I could not, for the life of me, tell you even *how* I would check that on my machines!

Unless you have older monitors, your monitors' on-screen display should be able to tell you what your current frequency setting is.

Like BBWF said, you are complaining of getting a higher reffresh in Linux than Windows? That doesn't make sense to me. I personally can't handle anything lower than 85hz. 75hz is noticeable to me and 60hz gives me a migraine.

Maybe I'm just backwards . Could it be something else that bothers my eyes then? In Windows I have no problem but after a while in Linux it becomes an issue.

And how much does it really matter? I know 60 is bad because of florescent lights, atleast on CRTs. I thought I read its different for LCDs or something.

the ugly fonts?

everything should only improve with refresh increase, unless you notice blurriness or something else is interfering wiht the signal.

lcd's dont have a refresh rate. a crt is a gun strobing light across the front of the tube X times per second, at 60hz, 60 times a second. an lcd is not a strobe, it's just constant voltage going to the individual pixels. that's why lcd's are easy on the eyes, you dont have a gun blasting light at your face

Makes sense. Ive got a 17" lcd at work, and the 12" lcd on the iBook. I barely touch the CRTs anymore

Maybe I should break down and get an LCD..I know I sure as hell am getting tired of fvckin' around with this WinXP reffresh problem BS.

An iBook or an AlBook could solve that
