"Sony will offer Blu-ray Disc (BD) devices in a wide range of product lines and prices and aims to increase the global market share of its BD products from 20 percent currently to 50 percent, by the end of 2008, according to Sony president and Electronics CEO Ryoji Chubachi at a press conference in Taipei on April 3."

Products that don't come close to meeting expectations can reasonably be described as failing. You can look at it however you like, if I don't agree with you as far as I'm concerned that's all it is, a disagreement.

Blu-ray is not "failing", that's ridiculous.

How am I supposed to "research" your bogus claim that 4 gigs of storage is a "serious drawback" for gaming on the 360 ? The only place this claim exists is in your head.

lol, my post would only be cryptic to someone who doesn't know anything about the 360 or PS3. But here is a hint, don't research my specific comment, research the product. I know, that's a crazy concept for you. Apparently you like your information spoon fed to you, which is something I won't contribute to.

And FYI, I actually find it funny you can't even quote me correctly. Do you just write whatever you want and then just put quotes around any words you feel like? lol

On a somewhat side note, is anyone else really irritated by the blu-ray ad on the front of every blu-ray I've ever rented? Why the hell are they advertising blu-ray to people who obviously already have blu-ray?

And what is the deal with the unskippable trailers? Im so sick and tired of having to fast forward through all this crap. I just want to watch a movie, but between the 2 minute boot up, the 2 minute ad, the 10 minutes of trailers and the 2 minutes of FBI warnings, its like a god damn eternity before the actual movie starts.

Its almost as if they dont want people to actually buy these discs.

Because the studios are retarded. It's like when they played anti-piracy ads in the movie theaters.

Get a clue before trying to pretend you know what you are talking about. The $199 XBox 360 S comes with a 4GB flash drive which is a REAL drawback for even the casual gamer. The XBox 360 Arcade is even worse with 512MB of storage. So making the claim that a larger hard drive has something to do with piracy is just borderline retarded.

It's possible to add an 8gb flash drive to a 360 Arcade for about $10.

Tell me one 360 game that can't be played with such a system and I'll concede to your "REAL drawback" claim.

btw, I was quoting you from memory, please explain the distinction between a 'serious drawback' and a "REAL drawback". since you think it's significant enough to make an issue out of it.

btw, since you say the hard drive doesn't have anything to do with piracy; I decided to search google a bit and see if people discuss copying games to a 360 hard drive and playing without the disk, one way to steal software, and there's definitely a lot of search results..

It's not a matter of playing just one game. It's a matter of playing a lot of games, like most owners. 4GB is not suitable for any typical owner.

Please correct me if I'm wrong here.

With an Arcade 360 and an 8gb flash drive I can play any 360 game or demo, and as many 360 games and demos as I want, one at a time.

With a 360 with a 250gb hard drive I can play any 360 game or demo, and as many as I want, one at a time.

So strictly for gaming, what is the hard drive for other than convenience ? Does it serve any purpose other than being able to load parts of the game from the hard drive instead of the disk ? and being able to have more demos/downloadable games installed simultaneously ?

Nope, you've got it mostly right.

Some games use the HDD as a cache outside of the install, such as oblivion or halo. But they'll run just fine without one, but load slower.

It's strictly convenience.

i'm pretty sure about this but not 100% so someone correct me if i'm wrong (swore i read this somewhere)...

but i think the load times on an install on a USB hdd vs the actual HDD is slower on USB due to the USB interface.

Actually, from what I've read and tested it's the opposite. The hdd in the 360 is a slow laptop drive, but it's not limited by the sata bus. The USB stick is limited by the USB bus, but a good stick has better sequential read times and in the end it comes out with a decent USB stick loading faster by a hair, often less than a second. If the USB stick were on the same internal sata bus as the hdd, it would probably load much faster than the hdd.

Advantages of a 360 with a large hard drive vs a 4GB/8GB flash drive.

1. DLC (add-ons) - You can fill up a 4GB/8GB drive VERY quickly with downloadable characters, maps, RB/GH songs, etc. My nephew bought just about every RB songs available, and while I'm not sure exactly how much space that takes up, I am sure it will eat up a butt load of space on a 4GB flash drive. And if you are playing online and you don't have the same songs/maps your friend has, you won't be able to play those songs/maps, which sucks.

2. Downloadable games - XBox and XBox 360 games are available to purchase on the XBox Live Marketplace and they are very large, 4GB+ in size. I've bought a few games off XBox Live and loading a game without needing to get up off the couch is great! It does have some drawbacks, but not in my case. There are also downloadable games you can only purchase online. Again, my nephews both download games and play each other online. Without the necessary space, they would either have to delete other content to make room, or just not play the game.

3. Downloadable movies/shows - If you want to purchase a show or movie online, you'll need a lot of space. An HD movie I believe takes up about 6GB.

4. Copying games discs to your hard drive - With my XBox Elite (120GB hard drive), I copied my 360 games to my hard drive which helped load times, reduced the noise of the console considerably, and reduced the wear on my DVD drive. With the new XBox 360 S, noise isn't so much of a concern (it's pretty dang quiet), but I would still install it to my hard drive to reduce wear on my DVD drive.

Those are a few advantages of a large hard drive and NONE of them have to do with piracy.

Those of you saying the PS3 won't see any price drops do know that Fry's has been selling the 250GB system for $299 ($50 drop) & the 120GB for $279 ($20 drop) since Saturday, right?

They are probably clearing out old stock for the 160GB and 320GB models that are coming out.
