:)

I'll have to add it to my reading list.

Is the band of brother series completely done? It was one of the best shows I have ever watched in my entire life and sits next to movies like ShawShank Redemption and American History X. I've got several question about BoB...

1)What ever happen to the main characters who were wounded in the forest? (Legs blown off)
2)First parts, what was the yellow thing all the paratroopers were wearing?
3)Whatever happen to Soble?
4)What happen to most German POWs? Where were they sent?
5)When Winters (I think it was winters) was walking with a man on the railwood who was the man that was shot accidentally, what happen to him?

BTW, anyone have any other great war movies? Simaller to BoB,Thin Red Line,Platoon and Saving Private Ryan?

I don't feel guilty about not serving in Iraq or Afghanistan but I occasionally do feel guilty that I wasn't around to serve in WWII....yes, I know I'm strange.

Movies? Patton. The Great Escape. Gettysburg (not WWII). We Were Soldiers (Vietnam).

1) Wild Bill? He survives and is one of the soldiers interviewed.
2) They jumped with a supply bag attached to their legs but the bags were a failure.
3) Was put into supply management. Forget his epilogue.
4) Set free after the war, for the most part. Some were tried in Nürnberg.
5) Died I think.

Go watch the series a few more times :)

BoB was great I agree. I'm still reading this week's massive time article about D-Day :)

Read the book, Band of Brothers.

1) Guarnere - Received an 80% disability in 1945, married, had a child and worked as a printer, salesman, VA clerk, and carpenter. He still lives in South Philly
Toye - Married in 1945 and discharged from the Army in 1946. Received an 80% disability, worked in a textile mill in Reading, PA then spent 20 years as a bit grinder for Bethlehem Steel.

2) Which yellow thing?

3) There's some discrepencies about what happened to Soble after the war.

4) Some German POWs were sent to the States, others to POW camps.

5) I can't remember the man's name....but I believe he survived.

(All this is in the "Postwar Careers" section of Band of Brothers.)

This from the Postwar Careers chapter of the original Band of Brothers book:

#3
Captain Sobel had a rough life after the war. He worked and lived in Chicago, got a divorce, and was estranged from his Children. A few members of Easy tried to get in contact with him, and found Sobel to be bitter and rageful against the men of Easy Co. long after the war. Sobel attempted to commit suicide, but botched it. He eventually died in 1988, and no member of Easy Co., his ex-wife, or his two sons attended the funeral.

#5
The man that was shot (twice actually), was "Moose" Heyliger. He had numerous operations over several years, but was still alive at the time of the writing (early 1990's). He graduated from UMass in 1950 with a degree in horticulture.

The Sobel stuff is in dispute. His children claim that while he may didn't fit with Easy Company, he was an excellent father and continued to make the Army a career. According to his suviving family...there was never any attempted suicide.

I was in AFROTC before September 11 and now I'm a 2nd Lt. in the USAF. I've read Flags of Our Fathers and have just started on Bradley's second book, Flyboys. I recommend it as well.

Really??

That's certainly interesting. Any idea who or where Ambrose got his information from?

Mostly interviews from surviving members of Easy.
