It's the ground path that the electricity took, and it boils out the water where it ran down through the bark.
Water Oaks do survive the streak.
I can show you several dead pines in the area around where we used to live in Orlando (Casselberry) where pines were snuffed that way -
it takes about 5 years before the dead stick falls down.
