I just love training. It's practically all I do with my spare time. Train, or thinking of training 😛

I had considered training full time and quiting my job but seeing as I'm injured it wasn't worth it. I can still get a good 3-5 sessions with my current job though so thats very nice. If I changed jobs I'd struggle to train as much.

Yea, I love going to the gym more then doing anything, I just wish I had someone that felt the same to go with me. The only person I know that loves to go is a friend from back home.
 
wow, some of you guys are pretty strong. I want to be able to squat at least 2x my weight, but i broke my leg 5 months ago, and now am back to restarting this. And about bench, i'm not sure how much I can do, at most I've done is 8 reps 95lb dumb bell press. Before my accident, I was also doing 55lb 8 rep db curls, but now I'm down to 40lb 8 reps.

Lately, I've found that more isn't neccessarily better. I am trying to cut up, so I'm doing 15 reps, and 4-5 sets in exercises. (i.e. db curl 25lb 15X5)I get just as much intensity, but sweat more. I think its all the same in the end, as long as you feel that your muscles are growing, and that you are consistently increasing the weight you lift.


I do have one question however. How long have some of you guys been working out? Especially the ones with crazy stats. I know it takes years, but how much? More specifically, when you set a goal for yourself to bench 2x your weight, how long did that take?

I've found the best way to get cut is to lose weight (diet and increase Cardio). Of course you also lose strength but if you are into getting cut you are more interested in how you look than how strong you are.

Keep your rest periods short when you want to get big. You won't lift any heavy weights but you will get bigger. You will in fact lift @ 50-60% of your 1RM if you hit it for 12-15reps x 3-4sets.

It just depends on what you want to do.

Yes take it easy with your leg! You just have to suck it up and take the rehab properly. I've been injured for the past 10months and it has been really crappy but at least I'm getting back to normal. So hopefully within 6months I'll be fully better and can push harder.

2x BP is huge dude...

I know a guy that can do more and he is big at 235lbs. His max is 484lbs strictly.

I've been training since I was 16 and a half properly with a coach and a club. Before then I had done 18months of my own training that wasn't great, but I worked hard and got results.

2x Squat is much easier then a 2x BP. A 3x Squat is something else though.

If you focus on it you can get it. 1.5x BP is also a good figure also.

Thats what I have found with nearly everyone that I know.

I'm lucky in that I train and coach at a club. Lots of guys down 3x a week so we alway motivate each other and we all improve a lot. Training on your own is very tough going imo. As long as I have another person in the gym I train a hell of a lot better.

I started lifting about 2 months ago, I am 180lbs @ 5'7". I use the pyramid lifting thingy, so all the stats listed are the highest weights that i've achieved to date.

Bicep Curl: 100lbs x 5
Squat - 140lbs x 6 (note that I have to put the bar on my shoulders from the floor, I dont have a squat rack)
Bench - 130lbs x 4
Calf Lift - 190lbs x 10
Tricep Extention - 100lbs x 3
Upright Row - 110lbs x 3
Bentrow - 130lbs x 3
Deadlift 190lbs x 4

I understand short rest periods for getting big, but where are you finding that you should also do 4x12? Everything I've seen indicates you want to do more like 4x5.

12reps x 4sets = for size.

5reps x 4sets = strength

You should mix up your reps and sets and cycle them about. You should not be doing the same rep and set scheme longer then 12 weeks! If your a beginner it is okay to stay on it for say 3-4months but they should switch it up.

For size you need volume and short rest period = keeps the intensity of training higher.

Heavy weights for fewer reps will make you stronger for a 1RM but you won't pack on as much as you 'could' if you worked for more reps with a lighter weights. Also when people lifit heavy they take longer in rest periods = lowers the overall intensity level.

But again you should cycle your training reps and sets so you do everything.

You will pack on size lifting heavy also but it is more efficient to do it for 12-15rep range for 3-4sets though.

You got to eat A LOT OF FOOD to put on weight also. Or eat a lot and don't do any training but then that is just fat 😛

In my weights classes, we only max on three things. Bench, parallel squats, and cleans. I'm 17, 5'7", 155 lbs about 14% body fat.
Max
Bench - 175
Clean - 150
Squat - 275

I think I would've been able to pull more on bench and cleans, but I injured my arms a week or so before we did maxes.
 
I consider myself a bodybuilder moreso than a powerlifter, so I don't have 1RMs, but here are my multi rep maxes:

Bench: 6x275
Deadlift: 6x430
Squat: 5x315 (free weight squat, legal parallel depth)
 
max bench 315lbs (1 sec hold at bottom)
squat - sucks (225) skinny leg genetics.. great for running/sucks for strength
deadlift - not real sure 250?

ive been lifting for 1 year.. start at weight 147lbs.. now at 208 (body fat at 10%)

supplements:

whey protien (200g/day) + food (chipotle)
v12 turbo cycled with kre-alkaline (both are bi creatine and tri creatine.. no monohydrate)
glutamine
fish oil
flaxseed oil
mega man vitamin
tribex (occasionally) .. test booster

and i eat all the time.. rice, chicken almost everyday.. yogurts as snacks.. 1 gallon of milk
 
5'7" - 148lbs

Max Bench - 8 Reps @ 205lbs
Curl - 4x 20 Reps @ 22lbs (I have old dumbells so i cant fit anymore on them)

Other than I dont know, I dont have a set workout plan 🙁 ... I like to be actually doing something else (Golfing, Swimming, Running, Pitching, Hitting (Baseball)) to gain muscle and endurance. Weights just get boring after a while.

I think my max bench was either 305 or 310, in college.

For squat, I did a 1RM of 580 lbs in H.S.

Cleans, I don't do them because I don't trust my back and I am a tall guy, so I find the risk not worthy.

Deadlifts I do about 380 x 4, but never tried 1RM.
 
5'7" - 129lbs - 14 years old


well lets see, I had one heck of a time carrying my new 26" crt hdtv up the stairs and it weighed about 90 pounds, and that was going up a flight of stairs.

You have squated 580lbs and you don't trust your back?!

You don't have to go crazy lifting, start low and build up.
