I find that I understand precisely where you are coming from. There's no question that you're right - people's emotional energy can be directed toward all manner of things, and controlling that emotional energy is what makes us humans instead of chimps.

But controlling it is ALSO what keeps us from being bonobos.

Exactly. It seems instead of allowing us to be bonobos we force ourselves, socially, into being warring apes. It comes from our mental demand to constantly make rules, rules we expect others to follow at all times, rules that we expect we have every right to violate 'for the right reason'.

Lust is extreme desire. The opposite of desire is contentment. If you are content, you don't have a desire for that item. However, desire also provides motivation, so if you are content, you are not motivated to achieve that item/issue, as you no longer desire it. The truly positive goal is not eliminating desire (unless one is looking to achieve Buddhist enlightenment) but to use it to motivate you to achieve what is desired. If it is sex, you need a nasty girl. If it is food, the "foodie" trend, with small amounts of many different really good foods is a good lifestyle. Think about what is lacking in your life ( a BIG problem with many youth who are not very self-aware) and then develop a plan to achieve it!

One of the reasons why I wanted to spread positivity on the internet was in the wake of the awful tragedy the las vegas mass shooting.
