And lefties still think we don't need private guns in the US because citizens would be crushed anyway (the classic leftie "hand guns won't save you from US tanks and jets" argument). LMAO. These guys did it without many guns, so imagine how much quicker it would be over if they were stock piling like US citizens and not having to retreat temporarily because of a couple riot shields and smoke grenades from a few loyalists "just doing their job".

Because if you have a weapon, you legitimize whoever wants to kill you, and they will use everything at their disposal.
In egypt bringing weapons would mean problems with the army, and police wouldn't have used riot shields and batons, but guns right from the start, it would just have been more of a bloodbath.
Same in tunisia.
After a while the dictator has to leave.

Gaddhafi really is a mad dog. First he blamed Israel and the US; then he said the protestors were on drugs; now he's saying Al Qaeda is leading the protestors. Also, he's BOMBING the protestors and using heavy weapons. Shit has gotten really real and a protestor would be insanely stupid to follow your advice. It's suicide to go into the street without any means to defend yourself. Gaddhafi is right, his government is far more primitive then Egypt or Tunisia.

But if the government decides to slaughter innocents, then you have plenty of firearms to use to reply in kind. If you are at home and hear that the government's mercs are going door to door hacking people up with machetes, then you will be ready for them when they come for you, your wife and kids. They are also there if you wish to go to fight for the peaceful protestors who are being fired upon by the army / mercs.

Sure, the armed forces have heavier weapons, but they are also composed of former civilians and, unlike foreign mercenaries, many will be hesitant of orders to fire upon their fellow countrymen, even if their countrymen are armed, unless they are acting in defense. They might even join their neighbors that are protesting and bring their heavier weapons with them, which seems to be the case in eastern Libya.

Basically I always laugh at these threads that are tainted with our one hand behind back approach to warfare as if it means anything real. Real warfare is trivial to control whole populations with limited numbers. All you need to look at is history like Japan controlling China with ~40,000 men, or Spanish all of south America with a few thousand men, etc etc etc.

Gadhafi accused al-Qaida leader Osama bin Laden of being behind the uprising in Libya, in a rambling phone call to state TV. I'm actually going to miss his speeches to the UN and shiz. Ghadhafi needs to go, but what he leaves behind is not going to be pretty.
