The question is, should I get rid of my Optimus G Pro for this? The answer? Probably not. Besides, i don't see a nice big notification light on the G2.

How does 3GB of RAM work out? I am imagining that most, if not all, 2 GB phones run dual-channel memory off of 2 x 1 GB chips. Will it have 4 chips? (2 x 1 GB, 2 x 512 MB) Or use 3 x 1 GB chips and lose dual-channel?

There is what appears to be a RGB LED on the top, check at 36s:

What I find more intriguing is how they plan to execute this "window" with an IPS display, probably just light the whole LCD.

@lopri, interesting question, but I think they decided for 2GB, maybe they will experiment with 3GB in Korea.

Interesting idea, but since it's an IPS display, the entire screen has to be active for that "window" to work. That's got to hurt battery life significantly.

I see the little tiny LED at the top now. The problem is that it's a little tiny LED. :) One of the great things about the OGP is the size of the notification light, it's very visible. Some of those tiny ones are hard to see from any sort of distance past a foot (I had that problem with the One X).

I'm going to venture a guess that the "window" is built in to the case and communicates with the G2 via Bluetooth. Then it's powered off the battery in the G2 via some contacts, but since it's a small resolution screen with a minimal amount of lighting, the battery life hit will be pretty minimal.

That's how I'd do it, anyways.

Sounds good for battery but could make the cover expensive and less appealing, and if you do the pins for powering, why not make them for the little display too, making it even less complex and more power friendly.

Anyways "your way" sounds better then lighting the whole screen, that makes the "window" quite pointless.

There's your answer. I had an LG chocolate phone and liked it, the Prada was decent as it was the first phone with a capacitive touchscreen but the software was crap and unpolished like the iPhone. Nexus 4 seems pretty good but the battery life is just horrible. I wouldn't write off LG just yet, I think they can rebound as they have a lot of resources being a Korean chaebol.

LOL at you.

Battery life is acceptable on the Nexus 4. I have one and hadn't been put in a scenario where I was at a loss because of battery life.

I'm not talking about the external look. I'm talking about this whole window cover thing. Samsung started it and of course LG has to roll with it...

So no one else should do it? Samsung should be the only vendor that sells phones with this feature? Why exactly would any consumer argue for this?

Lg is really stepping up hardware-wise. Excellent screens. Excellent SoCs. And excellent hardware features. Question is, have they stepped up software-wise as well??? How do they differentiate from HTC and Samsung and SONY when it comes to software or is that their weak spot?

That's a good question. Does LG embrace open source like Sony has? I know Samsung sort of does, depending on the carrier anyways.

Apple does not copy Samsung. LG does. Samsung copies Apple (and everyone else)...

LG copies Samsung, who copies everyone, and everyone presumably includes LG, so Samsung copies LG who copies Samsung? yeah, right, whatever.

Products build off of each other, deal with it. Apple "copied" Symbian, which "copied" PalmOS, etc, etc.

I think there's blatant copying and then design trends. What I'm addressing here is LG pretty much following Samsung. "G2" instead of Optimus G2? Kinda going for the "GS2" name? Then the smart covers or whatever you call these things that Samsung advertised?

The thing is it's not even that good of a feature. I can understand people copying features because the industry is trending that way or because everyone loves it. So yes, the smart cover copy is pretty blatant to me.

I'm just saying. I get the feeling from LG that they're trying hard to follow Samsung's footsteps. Meanwhile I feel like Sony's still treading down the same path it did with its old Walkman phones, and HTC's definitely trying something new with its industrial design.

Anyway, this isn't so much a "wow you copied, lawsuit time" remark. It's more of a "oh how unoriginal" comment.

The name might not be that orginal, but keep in mind T-Mobile did it first with the T-Mobile G2 (rebranded HTC Desire Z).

I have an LG Optimus phone and I am very disappointed by the after sales service they provide though the hardware was also not upto the expectation I prefer HTC and Samsung rather than LG phone, their specs numbers do look good though

Which Optimus? There have been at least a dozen of horrible 'LG Optimus' phones. The first one came out at least three years ago.

Even 2012's Optimus phones weren't really that good except for a few.

LG is already ahead of HTC and sony in the smartphone race. The most recent statistics suggest that after Samsung and Apple, LG is the only smartphone maker who is barely eeking out a significant profit from smartphones.

Are you a troll? Samsung is the biggest copycat in the industry. Their early designs for tablets were total ripoffs off an iPad.

After innumerate lawsuits they had to calm themselves. Why are you fanboying? Everyone is copying everyone and Samsung is the worst in the pack. Oh noes, LG stole a feature. Get in line.
