I love my Optimus G but unless LG really gets better with updates, I'm not getting another LG phone again.

My Sprint version of the GS2 is about to blow up from being so bad and having so many issues.
My international Galaxy S2 doesn't have any issues. Maybe it's just a US model thing.
Quite frankly, the only reason why I upgraded from it was when I switched to T-Mobile in April this year and I couldn't stand being on Edge/2G. I would have been perfectly fine waiting on the next Nexus if I wouldn't be stuck with T-Mobile Edge/2G speeds for 6 months.

What is bad about yours and what issues is it having?

Not even if it's a Nexus?
What OS is the Optimus G on now? I remembered they released the phone with ICS and they sure took their sweet time in upgrading to Jelly Bean 4.1

How long did LG take to upgrade their signature LG Optimus G from ICS to Jellybean is the question?

Jellybean(4.1.2) came to the LG Optimus G on April 4th/March 7th...Wow...Even my 2 year old Galaxy S II got Jellybean before it.
AT&T version: http://blogs.att.net/consumerblog/story/a7788939
Sprint version: http://community.sprint.com/baw/message/550891#550891

That's pretty ridiculous.

Yup, it took forever, only one phone isn't enough to kill their long standing record. I love the hardware but they have a while to go until we can trust them.

So did the Galaxy S II officially get the Jellybean update from Samsung?

Or are you talking about flashed ROM versions?

It did get it - not from Custom Roms

It's going to get 4.2.2 too (Final Update) - although I wonder if 4.2.2 will slow it down a tad.

I'll be honest, I've got a LG Optimus G as well, and I don't see what all the fuss is about.

Even with ICS, it was the fastest and smoothest feeling phone on the market - This is coming from a phone junkie who's owned all the top phones currently available other than the S4.

When my Optimus G updated to JB 4.1.2, You could barely tell any difference whatsoever between the old ICS and new JB.

4.2.2 offers even less of a jump in useful things, other than the Notification improvements and driver improvements (Which honestly most won't notice)

Having the latest Android is quite overblown for daily use, other than saying you have the latest and greatest.

The Optimus G is a beautiful phone, and is still the fastest feeling phone I've ever used, Stock.

I think its mostly because Ive beaten the thing over the last 2 years, or not treated it the best, but its on sprint so I bet half the issues are caused from sucky sprint signals. I just want this on verizon or a comparable phone to be on verizon within 3 months lol

Other than Project Butter and a few other optimizations, what benefits did the SGS II really get from the Android Jellybean update?

Again, the LG Optimus G showed a huge improvement over the Optimus 2X/4X in terms of Android updates. It will only get better as LG gets better at designing smartphones.

Conjecture: you have nothing to back that up.

Also, why would being better at designing smartphones mean LG is better at support? The two are not correlated.

Here we have a case in point, LG's previous phone is up to date, and got an Android update after Samsung's previous flagship. Not even their current one. That is bad. And that is not the 2X or the 4X, it is the Optimus G. Its hardly ancient history.

So why is LG suddenly going to get much better at support? Where is your proof for your claims?

I'm sorry, LG burned me and I will never touch them again, unless it is a Nexus device.

i'm with you on this one, i now own an optimus G and it is the fastest phone i've ever used and i've used a lot. i simply can't slow this thing down. i did try a few roms on it but bugs always showed up one way or another. now i just use it completely stock and its fine with me.

The IDC is reporting that both Apple and Samsung lost market share in Q2.

LG is probably the most surprising strong performer. From memory, LG had a negligible existence last year however its market share is >5%, and seems to be approaching Apple's market share.

IDC: Apple and Samsung lose market share in Q2

According to the latest figures from Internation Data Corporation (IDC) market analysis, Apple and Samsung continue to dominate the smartphone market. However, the companies have seen their shares slip in Q2 of this year compared to what they had last year.
Of the estimated total of 237.9 million smartphones shipped this past quarter, Samsung accounted for some 72.4 million units, or 30.4%. Despite shipping more units in Q2 than for the same period of last year, Samsung's market share dropped from 32.2% due to seasonal sales rates and lost market share to up-and-comers like LG and Lenovo.

gsmarena_001.jpg

LG was able to ship 12.1 million units in Q2, giving it a 5.1% market share, while Lenovo sold 11.3 million units, or 4.7%. Those two saw their shipments increase by 108.6% and 130.6% YoY, respectively.
Apple, meanwhile saw its market share drop by almost a quarter to 13.1% in Q2. The (highly) rumored release of a budget iPhone model alongside the iPhone 5S should hopefully bring things back for the Cupertino-based company, but the effects of those will only be properly felt in Q4.

The lost market share is likely of little concern to either Apple or Samsung, as both are raking in huge profits from their smartphone offerings. Particularly Samsung, who is celebrating a record $8.5 billion profit for Q2.

How does 5% approach 13%? I'm stoked for LG as they've created some great handsets in the last 12 months, but let's not hugely exaggerate.

The more impressive number IMO is Samsung shipping 22 million more smartphones y/o/y, even if their overall marketshare shrunk. Additionally, the 38 million additional handsets that fell within the 'other' group - it'd be interesting to see the list go to the top 10 so we can see the split/growth of HTC and Sony.

Why do you love LG so much?

No brand loyalty here (I own a Galaxy S4). I like their new smartphones. Was not a fan of their older Optimus branded smartphones.

The LG Optimus G was probably the first decent smartphone they made and it really caught my eye and I was actually considering buying it early and not waiting for the Galaxy S4.

Now with the LG Optimus G Pro, it certainly beats the Galaxy Note 2 in many areas such as the screen resolution, processing speeds and nearly rivals it in terms of features.

The LG G2 (the Optimus name has been dropped) looks amazing. The new technology in the display will blow everything out of the water once it's released. It also sports Optical Image Stabilization... something that is rare in the smartphone arena until recently. Even then, a lot of flagships in the future wont feature OIS.

However the main thing I like about the LG G2 is the bezel-less design that allows for maximum screen real estate in a relatively similar form factor as the Galaxy S4 except being able to fit a 5.2 inch display instead of a 5 inch display. And the super-bright IPS display is very attractive to look at. The LG G2 will feature this display (just look at the OP to visualize how bright the display really is... literally brighter than the iPhone 5's display).

I've changed the title of this thread and previous posts to LG G2 instead of LG Optimus G2 since LG is no longer using the "Optimus" nomenclature for its flagship smartphone lineup.

LG G2 scores nearly 30,000 on AnTuTu

Once the hoopla over the launch of the Motorola Moto X dries up, New York City will be the home to another smartphone unveiling on August 7th. That is when the LG G2 is expected to see the light of day. While the Moto X seems to have captured much more attention, there is no reason for the LG G2 not to produce drool at a mere glance of its specs. And the lack of front and side buttons could also have you looking forward to touching that uniquely placed volume rocker on the back of the handset.

The LG G2 took a spin through the AnTuTu benchmark test using the code name LG-D802 and tallied an impressive score of 29,909. The first smartphone to offer the combination of the quad-core 2.3GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 and 3GB of RAM, power users spanning the globe are going to be drawn to the device. Toss in a 5.2 inch screen, 1080 x 1920 resolution and a 13MP rear-facing snapper and we could be looking at a serious challenger in the Android market for the latter months of 2013 and early 2014. Android 4.2.2 is pre-installed out of the box.

I share your exact sentiment.
I was one of the few that didn't have problems with the Optimus 2x.
I saw the G pro for the first time today and man, that screen is gorgeous.
I can imagine how nice the new screen will be

Any ideas on price? I searched this thread for '$' and 'price', but didn't come up with anything... I'm just wondering if I missed it, or if it doesn't matter to everyone else.
