Recently, I found that one of my burners would not eject half the time, so I found myself spending a couple of hours online hunting a reliable, speedy drive. I was very surprised to also find that one of the best drives I found was also very inexpensive. (not the cheapest - I did find another for about $26, shipped, but it got bad reviews) Since I was able to get 3 for under $100, and I have 3 computers, I just took the plunge and upgraded all of them with these.

Right now, they are priced at $28.99 each, so total for 3 would be $96.51, including shipping (no tax here)
specs:
LG Black 18X DVD+R 8X DVD+RW 8X DVD+R DL 18X DVD-R 6X DVD-RW 12X DVD-RAM 16X DVD-ROM 48X CD-R 32X CD-RW 48X CD-ROM 2MB Cache IDE Super-Multi DVD Burner
Model #: GSAH42N
It's a fairly new model, but it has gotten great reviews online:

Probably the best feature is the drive's ability to burn dual layer media at 10X! With the price of Dual Layer media finally dropping down under $1 a disk, I'll finally start using it. - at least until HD DVD burners finally come down under $100! I think that's at least a couple of years off, though.
Note: it really is a 10X DL burner. I've had a couple people ask me where I got that. Newegg actually lists it as an 8X DL burner, but the online test results I've read have all said it does 10X.
