lol - yeah. 5.5 seconds for a 0-60 time is nuts - plus, I'd trust Lexus to produce a quality and reliable vehicle. You won't want to own the S8 once it leaves you stranded, and it enters it's 3-4th year of electrical grimlins.

BMW and Mercedes had long wheelbase sedans for a while, all lexus has done is "improve" on it.

reminds me of the ipod and how its so similar to some mp3 players...its just an improvement.

im liking the LED headlights though.

(btw i dont like lexus.)

i think the number of gears on these top end luxury sedans is becoming more of a pissing contest than anything else. is this really improved performance (from the standpoints of speed, mileage, and reliability) vs a 4 speed or 5 speed automatic?

looks kinda like a big 5 series to me.

oh yea, i almost forgot hybrid is a marketing ploy

Power and performance are not valid reasons?

so how many mpg would a non-hybrid version get vs this version? what's the spread? 5 mpg? like that's really making a difference.

XJR tested at 4.7, that is nuts (and got 20 mpg while driven by the leadfoots at c&d). i think i'd rather have the jag merely because not everyone in houston has one.

of course... an LS400 with some flowmasters on it would be awesome. that v8 has a great sound if allowed to roar.

But MPG is not totally the point of this vehicle.

There is a big difference between 4 and 5 speed auto's, in all the areas you mentioned. However, now with this showin an "8 speed" that is just overkill. 6 gears is enough for most anything on the road other then diesel trucks with 1000+ lb-ft of torque or supercars with 1000 hp

V8, 5000+ lbs curb weight, AWD? Probably looking at 15 city/19hwy without the hybrid... A combined low-20s isn't bad for the weight and power. Lower emissions is good, too.

It would give a nice tax break for the rich people who buy it...

Yeah - because we all know rich people are foaming at the mouth to get that measily grand

That interior is ballin outrageous, and I even like the exterior as well, but 16mpg is pretty crappy. I mean yeah it has a lot of power, but I was hoping for efficiency like that of their hybrid SUV, which would be the only SUV that I would consider for my next purchase.

lets say 22 vs. 17 for hybrid vs. standard LS:

for 1000 miles that 45.455 gallons vs. 58.82 gallons. that's 13.37 gallons saved for 1000 miles, 1336.90 gallons saved over 100,000 miles.

for a civic hybrid:

35 for the regular with AT (rated 30/40) at 50 for the hybrid (49/51)
for 100,000 the hybrid takes 2000 gallons, and the regular 2,857.14. that's a savings of 857.14 gallons, or almost 500 LESS gallons saved than a hybrid LS.

and remember, that is with the enormously inaccurate (for hybrids) EPA gas mileage, not the real world.

not that it hasn't been pointed out before, but:
Even with this level of performance, the new LS sedans are expected to receive a combined city/highway mileage in the low-20s as well as an Ultra-Low Emissions Vehicle II (ULEV II) rating.

No thanks. I'd rather drive my car, rather than have my car drive me. Toyota is working towards less driver intervention more and more. We should be training better drivers.

8 speed tranny.. V12 performance..

😀

You're mixing up the three models 🙂

LS460/LS460L = 4.6 liter V8 + 8 speed transmission
LS600h = 5.0 liter V8 + hybrid system + CVT transmission = V12 like performance

uh that's like all luxury cars, be it BMW or mercedes.
But then again, it's always fun to pick on the asian brands.
