Butterfly in the sky
I can go twice as high
Take a look

A Reading Rainbow

I can go anywhere
Friends to know
And ways to grow
A Reading Rainbow

I can be anything
Take a look

But it's all about the synth at the opening and closing. Genius theme.

I know if they don't reach their goal on kickstarter they don't get a cent, even if they're a dollar short. But what about the money that goes over? Do they get to keep money over the goal? If so, why not just set the goal for a buck and keep everything after to be safe?

From the update, they put:
Tonight, I can tell you that, as excited as we are, there’s a lot more we can still accomplish together, and that every single dollar pledged to this Kickstarter will go to the same two goals: put Reading Rainbow onto more platforms, and get Reading Rainbow into even more classrooms for free.

LeVar Burton asks for a million dollars, gets it in 11 hours. And now he's over by another $600K and it's only been one day. Geeze! 😱

...and funded. So wonder what the stretch goals will be?

KT
Buy PBS, turn it into the Reading Rainbow channel.

it's pretty awesome that this kickstarter got funded so quickly. i am still going to pledge some money, since i didnt yesterday, but when i got home and saw they reached the goal i was like, WOW. the update video of LeVar saying thanks was pretty touching.

The only thing I know about Reading Rainbow is what I saw on Community and other pop culture references to it. Oh, and Levar was in it.

It was actually one of my favourite shows when I was little. Don't remember much about it either but a long time has passed since those days. I'm really glad he's bringing it back for a new generation. Especially on more platforms too since a lot of people now read using apps or eReaders.

Was there a Tikki Tikki Tembo episode? For some reason I remember saying that rhyme over and over again when I was little.

It is about a boy named Tikki tikki tembo-no sa rembo-chari bari ruchi-pip peri pembo...

I didn't grow up here so never watched Reading Rainbow, but from what I see on youtube, looks like my $50 donation will go to a good cause. Donated mainly because I am a new father of a 5 month old, and this is something my daughter will benefit from.

yeah, it's crazy, I'm in for an autographed headshot? Why not?

Edit: Damn. The 100 dollar headshots are sold out? Now would need to drop 250? Daaammnn.. well, it's a great cause and it's tax deductable? Maybe I should put my money where my mouth is and drop 250 on a worthy causes, rather than another video game CF projecting (I'm looking at you SC.. PoE (PE).. and T:ToN).

is it tax deductible though?

The rhyme doesn't ring a bell, but "tikki tikki tembo" does, so you might be right. For some reason... I think of some kid with a sister making peanut butter and jelly sandwiches from an animated short when you brought that up. They were both light brown skin, and the sister had long dark hair. 20-25 years ago, so who knows for sure. Memories that old when you are that young are difficult to recall accurately. I am thinking if it wasn't from RR, it's from something similar around the late 80's / early 90's

from kickstarter FAQ:

Is my pledge tax deductible?
In general, no. However, some US projects started by or with a 501(c)(3) organization may offer tax deductions. If so, this will be touted on the project page. If you have questions about tax deductions, please contact the project creator directly via the "Contact me" button on the project page.

edit: i don't see anywhere on the RR Kickstarter page where it says it is a 501(c)(3) organization, but you could always ask them.

That show is just an attempt by the liberal media to push the homosexual agenda down our children's throats.

Why does it have to be a "rainbow" that is reading? I have a feeling very few rainbows can even see.

Let me know when they fail and have to rename it "Reading Titties n Beer"...or "Reading Red Meat over Open Flame"

Damn nancys

Dude, chill bro. I don't see how anyone can connect helping kids with their education to gay subterfuge. Just because the title has the word rainbow in it? C'mon man...

Or am I just getting trolled?

Oh they can see all right.

Why do you think it's so hard to catch one?
And if you do, they are really dangerous.

The moment you realize that there is probably a good chunk of ATOTers who read such posts of mine and believe I am a gigantic asshole. :'(

You weren't getting trolled, however. A troll has to make their opinions believable in order to elicit outrage.

I figured if the thought of Reading Rainbow being gay didn't give it away, "few rainbows can even see" would raise suspicion, and "Reading Titties n Beer" would drive it home. :/

I remember that quite distinctly from my teacher reading it out loud to us in like... 2nd grade lol. Also not to be confused with Rikki Tikki Tavi 😀

I don't remember a Reading Rainbow episode about it, but I definitely read that book a lot as a child. Thinking back on it, it is slightly odd that they would make a children's book where the moral is "don't give your children impossibly long and stupid names;" that's a moral for parents, not children.
