I really was hoping for the Knicks to fail today seeing as how they have Kidd and Chandler now. Kidd is just so damn crafty it doesn't matter that he's old and slow as molasses. Get by him oh well he reaches around and pokes the ball away. Can't run oh well he'll just stand at the top of the key and drop dimes.

Most coaches in the NBA are terrible at what they do. Very few are worthy of any praise, though that is probably true of most sports.

I will say that OKC's defense is a much much much bigger issue to me than their offense. They were able to outgun the Spurs last year in the WCF, and they will be able to ride that again most of the season this year. But they just cannot get stops when they need to. They really need to try to turn their picks/Martin (who scored 28 on 11 shots toady) expiring contract into something more useful. I would make a serious run at Arron Afflalo if I were them.

I'm guessing the Knicks will do quite well for the first month and a half of the season. Everyone's expectations will be raised and people will talk about them vying for a top 3 seed in the East. Then Amare will come back and the Knicks will be too crowded in the frontcourt and it will all go to hell again.

Lot of talent. Don't know how much that translates into wins for them though. Kidd will wear down and Felton really shouldn't be playing in the NBA. I imagine they are a top 6 seed in the end.


For NBA fans some good games tonight. Portland v Dallas should be good. Also Brooklyn Nets v Timberwolves. Anxious to see the Nets with their new additions.

Melo is still a top 10 talent and a top 2 scorer. He is just hitting his prime at 28. Anytime he can play closer to the basket he is an efficient scorer. STAT in the paint pushes him out further where he isn't as good. Melo needs to be a PF for the Knicks to thrive.

Their only hope is for Woodson to convince STAT to come off the bench and make a run at 6th man of the year. It will limit his minutes, which given his fragile history can only be a good thing, it keep him from hurting Melo, and it provides a very strong and capable scorer in the second unit every night. And if he puts up great numbers in smaller minutes, some stupid team may actually be willing to take his contract in a trade.

On a side note, I'm watching the Heat vs Suns now, and I really like alot of the players on the Suns roster this year. No elite guys, but a bunch of solid NBA guys that I like to watch.
 
I keep hearing how great Melo is, but I gotta tell ya, I ain't seen it. Every year I lose more and more hope that he'll ever be anything but a ball-stopper and volume shooter who scores a lot by shooting a lot and not getting his teammates involved in the offense, coupled with what could generously be described as "average defense." He shoots a worse percentage than Monta Ellis, who has never been described as anything but a ballhog. Why do we keep giving Melo a pass (something he wouldn't bother giving to his teammates)?

I've been watching Monday Night Football, so I wouldn't know. I'm not stoked about the Blazers this year; I figure facing any decent talent, we're going to be outmatched, especially on the road. So, yeah, predicting a loss for the Blazers tonight.

I will say that The Mavs and Blazers are both looking better this year than I thought they would.

Man you're missing out. Lillard looks legit as does Meyers Leonard. Aldridge a beast as always. Don't jump on the bandwagon too late.

Lillard has definitely impressed in this young season, and Aldridge always has that chance to flip a gear and start nailing 18 footers like they're layups. I just flipped on the game for a couple minutes; the Mavs have yet to even touch the rim from what I've seen. They are shooting just lights out. We need some shooters like that on Portland.

His FG% is dependent on his shooting selection, which is heavily influenced by whether he is playing SF with STAT on the floor or PF without him. If you put Melo in the painted area or midrange on the left side of the floor he is an excellent shooter, far above average.

Melo is still impossible to guard one on one in an ISO, and if the bigs clear the painted area then it is hard for the defense to swarm him. You cripple a great player by surrounding him with garbage and/or incompatible pieces. Look at Lebron's teammates in Cleveland for example. The Knicks roster isn't that bad, and while STAT sits they will do quite well.
 
I like Melo. Imo he's got the most beautiful stroke in basketball, and yes I mean beautiful. 🙂 His shot selection is stupid sometimes, but not uncommon for a player who can make anything when on.

He's a player with an 'extra gear' who's a beast on offense and defense when he goes there. Unfortunately he's very inconsistent, in effort and results. Inconsistent players can be the most dangerous, for their own team, as they can carry a team to victories one day but are different players the next...or the next quarter.

He's an enigma. He can compete as tough as anyone, but doesn't always and his decisions can be very frustrating sometimes. But what he can do is definitely elite imo.

There is good ball movement, Collison has been playing as good as any PG in the NBA through 3 games, defense has been playing on a string, low post scoring through either Brandon Wright or Kaman, and this is without Dirk. So yes I'm optimistic. I don't base my opinions merely on the opponent. I love basketball and watch and have been playing since I was a child. I'm not saying I'm some basketball genius or anything but I do have an eye for it.

After the blowout of the Trailblazers (which were 2-1 to start tonight) and the same things I said in this earlier post being true (solid defense, best point guard play in the league right now, solid low post scoring). I stand by my assessment of the team.

LOL, best PG play in the league? Collison is good, but not playing as even top 5 in assists per game right now.

Dallas definitely has a chance to surpass a terrible lakers, anaging spurs and a hardenless OKC to win the honor of losing to Miami in the finals 😛
 
Bucks are bringing it so far this year!

Would love them to get a 5-6 seed and get past the 1st round!

tons of respect for Brandon Jennings, just like how that guy operates.

it's a good thing there are 82 games in the season. Collison will come back down to earth. Really, he's overrated.

He had a few good games as a rookie when CP3 went down. He was inconsistent on the Pacers. IIRC he came off the bench last season when they traded for George Hill.

He is running the team very well. I admit it was kinda homerish to say the best in the league but I will not back off of top 5 right now. He's up there in assists, scoring, eff %, etc.. Still early though.

Not all the good ones came into the league and lit it up right away. Guys like Chauncey Billups and Steve Nash weren't any good till like there 4 or 5th years. I think 25 is a little early to give up on a point guard and say he is what he is. It's the most difficult position on the court.
