I wonder if Kobe will retire if Lakers don't make the playoffs.
wouldn't he lose the $30M he's due to make next season? He desperately wants a 6th title, I don't see why he'd hang it up this summer.

66% win rate the rest of the way sounds a bit unattainable, but I believe the Lakers are just 4 games out of a playoff spot. They embark on a 7-game road trip at month's end. So they really need to put together some Ws before February. If they're still 4 games under .500 when they hit the road, I seriously doubt they'll make the playoffs.

Kobe's not going to retire until he's essentially forced out by management. He's one of those that is going to hang around always in search of that last great victory even though he's old and a huge salary cap hit to his team. And I don't see him pulling a Malone/Payton/Allen/Lewis move and getting picked up for cheap to ring ride on a stacked team.

Hopefully a couple losing seasons will shut up the Kobe ball washers that go on about him being better than Jordan.

Kobe is gunning for the record books. He won't retire for many years, he still has too many all time greats to pass up.

This. He's currently 5th in all time points, needs 1k to get past Wilt for 4th, about 8k to get the top spot.

Let's assume he averages 28ppg, and doesn't make anymore playoffs - that equates to 2,296 points per season. He'd have to play 3-4 more seasons to get to #1.

I'd say 5 to 6 more seasons. No way he keeps up 28ppg through 38 yrs of age.

Not that he won't keep jacking shots trying.

Just saw Magic say the Lakers have to go 30-8 in the next 38 games to make the 8th seed. And *IF* they someone magically pulled that off. It'll more than likely will land them playing the Thunder. WOOP

was devastated to hear that Rondo tore his ACL. I'm a Celtics fan and was rallying for them to come back strong after the all star game. This news bummed me out so much, and I was riding what I thought would be an all week high after hearing about the Lakers in a lose/lose situation.

28-10 would get you the 8 seed. Mavericks have identical record as the fake show and people on the Dallas mavs board still talk about playoffs.

Miami just doesn't look impressive as the spurs or thunder to me. This is by no means a given they'll repeat.

I'm a big Magic fan, but he's not a very good analyst.

If the Lakers win here, 25-13 could well sneak into the playoffs. Granted I wouldn't put much money on them getting that done, but we should know once they wrap up the upcoming 7-game road trip.

Just heard this. I hate the celtics and I love watching D Rose destroy Rondo, but after experiencing the crushing effect of Rose's torn acl this past year, it's almost heartbreaking to see Rondo tear his acl now.

Some things one doesn't wish on their enemies, and for me this is one, particularly for such a talented and tough competitor like Rondo.

Spurs reached the top over the weekend, in both Eastern and Western!!! woohoo!!! go Spurs go! Even with Ginóbili and Duncan being out (not at the same time) for a while. They are kicking ass...
I know they are not championship team, even if they were David Joel Stern will make sure that they never reach the finals... but begin die hard Spurs fan I am very happy right now, enjoying while it lasts...

Kyrie Irving just punked the Thunder in the 4th quarter tonight. I have been watching tons of OKC games and their defense still isn't where it needs to be if they want to beat the Heat for the title.

They keep trying to ISO defenders and just collapse the paint but don't really do much more than that. They have fast guys and length but they just don't use it to their advantage on defense. I'm a huge Durant fan (we both went to UT) but he still is a below average defender and it really hurts them.

Scottie Brooks stuck with Ibaka, Perkins, Durant, Martin and Westbrook as his five to finish the game. Martin and Durant are straight up liabilities on defense and Perkins is too slow to be out there when the Cavs' main scoring threat is a penetrating guard. It was mismatch heaven as Tristan Thompson (again UT) kept pulling Perk or Durant out to be the switch of the PNR. WHAT?!?! Brooks had nothing for that?

You gotta be able to get stops, as they always say. OKC can pressure and force turnovers, but in crunch time when it matters they don't get stops. Halfway through this season they still haven't learned anything from their Finals performance, and with Memphis and the Clippers looking shaky now it looks like they will have a return trip and a return whoopin' awaiting them.

The Spurs have won 4 titles in the last 15 years. Don't throw that conspiracy nonsense around.

LOL I'm watching ESPN and Bayless is down playing the news that Lebron's shooting 30+ points @ 60%+ and he's saying it's not super impressive because all Lebrone's doing is driving up the lane. Apparently doing something nobody else has done isn't impressive, he's carrying on about how Lebron should be shooting more jumpers and outsiders so it'll actually mean something.

This dude will never give James his props. I've never seen anyone playing ball like James has the past month. If he continues like this jebus.

He is just entering his prime too. Barring injury the next five years for him will be special. Lebron just plays the game right, playing tough defense and moving the ball around to his teammates. His style of play is that of one of the guys you love to pick to play pickup games because of his hustle and teamwork. Nevermind that he can dominate individually (like game 6 of the ECF last season).
