Here's another thing they didn't do. They didn't update their BTO options and pricing on anything. Apple's BTO prices for hard drives and RAM are comically high right now.
On the Mini, they're still charging $50 for a 120 GB upgrade and $100 for a 160 GB upgrade. If you go to NewEgg and look for laptop drives, you'll see these prices for these capacities:
80 GB - $50
120 GB - $50
160 GB - $60
250 GB - $60
320 GB - $70
400 GB - $90
500 GB - $110
They are still charging $75 to go from 1x1GB to 2x1GB on the iMac, and $225 to move up to 2x2GB, when it's possible to get 2x2GB of RAM for under $50 today. Normally Apple's prices are 2-3x normal market price, and it's understandable that they'll skim a little off the top to cover their margins, installation cost, etc. But they're charging 4-5x as much right now.
Oh, and hard drives on the iMac. 250 GB to 320 GB is $50. 320 GB to 500 GB is another $50. That means they want $100 for 500 GB. That much money will get you a separate 1 TB hard drive!
Then again, these are all just optional upgrades. Borderline theft, yes, but if you fall for them, you won't get any sympathy from me.
It would be nice, though, if Apple would bother to upgrade their BTO options between major revisions. It bugs me that a computer that doesn't get a major upgrade in a year also has to languish with crappy modular components as well. It's not like it would be hard to simply give a minor spec bump once or twice between cycles, and it might cut down on the number of people who are constantly holding off for the next best edition.
