Let's suppose that we have to give Canada a state...

Seriously, what/how do the Bible Belt states contribute to the U.S. economy?

Really seriously? Agriculture.

Ahhhhh, so they're the ones who suck down tens of billions of dollars of our money at the agri-welfare trough each fucking year?

Shipbuilding facilities and ports on the Gulf Coast for one. Much of the Space program takes place in southern states. There are also a lot of natural resources such as coal, oil, timber, metal ores, etc., not to mention the large manufacturing capability they've built up around them over the years (sorry rust belt states...).

<sarcasm>They tried to get away from you guys once, but you just wouldn't let them. Buncha Yankee whiners... Now you are stuck with them....errr....us. 😛 </sarcasm>

If I had to choose, I'd say North Dakota. Sure, they have a lot in the way of coal/tar/shale deposits, but not too much else. Alaska has a wealth of resources and is a good strategic place to have, so I'd rather keep it.

bashing is fine, when its accurate.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Economy_of_California
The economy of California is a dominant force in the economy of the United States, with California paying more to the federal system than it receives in direct monetary benefits.[1

in a country of 50 states california is 13% of the gdp.

Since it's winninng in the Poll, we'll take it. Hell, give us their Per Capita of the Federal Debt too, that ought to shave off $1 Trillion(ish).

It's a deal then. Where do we sign?

Get rid of us Californians and watch the US economy fall from "recession" to "depression." Seriously, to draw an analogy, if US was the lakers, California would be Kobe. We don't do it all, but we do a lot.

If they're evil, michigan -- to punish them economically.
If they're good, michigan -- to be able to get rid of the boat anchor while looking like we're being nice.

Where's the option where the US annex all of Canada and then give them back one of their own states or provinces or whatever you want to call it.

yeah that totally blows

i don't even know why it was admitted into the union as two states (SD and ND). what's the two states total population anyway, less than 2 million? probably the (old school) republicans wanted more power over the presidential election?

I can't believe that this thread has gone this long and not a single mention of Mississippi could be found.

Let's look at this from a factual angle:

>2-1 tax dollars received per tax dollar paid
#50 in education
#50 in hate crimes
#50 in median family income
#50 in % of population with HS diploma/equivalent

Aw hell.....there's way too many to list.

Please, oh please Canada....take Mississippi. And if you act in the next 30 minutes....we'll throw in Alabama!

Mass.

A state that can repeatedly vote for Ted Kennedy and be proud of it has to be the dumbest state in the nation.

psst.. Mississippi is like the bastard child. We don't like to acknowledge its existence.

Wouldn't being #50 in hate crimes be a good thing?

Meaning that of all the states listed, they have the least amount of hate crimes?

do the states have to border Canada? the first state that absolutely needs to be jettisoned is Texas; though I've always preferred giving them back to Mexico where they belong. Texas thinks that they are their own country anyway, as their "children" have so successfully run our country into the ground over the last 8 years.

get then them the hell out of the US, as fast as possible, whatever way possible.
