One frequent jealous internet comment I've heard a million times over is that luxury cars are just overpriced versions of their cheaper counter parts.

I once heard someone say a Lexus LS (I used to own one) is just "a Toyota with leather." Yeah, truly the dumbest thing I've ever heard.

I drive an Acura ILX. While it is true my car shares many of the same parts as a Civic, the differences between the two cars is very noticeable. My car has better suspension (rides better), has a far more luxurious interior, better navigation system (larger screen), far far better stereo system, quieter ride (better insulation), thicker windows, LED headlights, completely different interior interface, numerous other small luxury refinements, and most of all......

far better looking exterior. The Civic, IMO, is super ugly.

My car stickered for like $33k. All that for $33k, I think it's a steal.

Point is, my car is a completely different car than the Civic. Engine is really the only similarity and that means little to me. I don't need 300hp and people who "think" they do are ridiculous. I'd rather have the extra mpg.

Back to the original point.

I think people are stuck in the 1990s General Motors mindset of duplicating cars and changing the nameplate. Anyone remember the Olds Bravada from the 90s? Or the original Escalade? Yeah, cars are rarely like that anymore.

Other brands like Lexus, Cadillac, or Infiniti have made huge improvements to set themselves apart from their parent companies and make their cars worth the money.

So please quit showing your ignorance of car brands for all the see and accept the fact that some of these luxury brands make great cars and are worth the extra money.

I think its time to let this on die as I see its headed down the gutter...
Next go around we need less "this is apples and that is oranges"...

thing is, on some cars, the most important bits. Engine transmission, chassis, are the same on the 15k civic, and the 30k acura.

If that's what you really value, then it easy to see how the acura is overpriced.

The guy whose avatar is the logo for a company making overpriced jeans is butthurt that people aren't validating his badge-engineered status-symbol car.

Shocking. Next thing I know people will be saying that water is wet.

I view the ILX as a Civic with a fancy interior. It is what it is. There are no real drivetrain or body differences.

If i had my way, I would have 662hp, not this measly 300hp you speak of (which I already have more than that)

Why do you care what others think? There are only a few threads where the ILX has even been mentioned. It's not like it's thread upon thread bashing it. No one cares enough about it to even do that.

I would bet that most generalized disparaging comments about a car are made by people with little if any experience in it...let alone driving it.

...but hey, the net is all the experience many people need to judge reality....YOU like your car, so what do they know...and clearly you know something they don't.

I don't believe the OP has the ILX with Si engine... it's the slower one.. or is that found in non-Si Civics?

Maybe you should pull up a photo of the two cars. They look nothing alike. The ILX also has a much better suspension system which gives it a nicer ride.

You see that's the problem with this forum.

Speed speed speed speed.

What are you people in such a hurry for that you need a huge engine? To get to your engineering jobs in morning rush our? Your life isn't a Fast and Furious movie.

Mine is. You can find the video at redtube.

I'm guessing you read my comment in that other thread and missed the sarcasm. Acuras and Infinitis are nice cars. And IS's (sorry, but everything else Lexus kind of sucks).

There are, however, two points to be made:

1) Those luxury badges are indeed all marketing. Not opinion; fact. They don't exist in Japan because they seem to just see 'yep, Honda, good car,' and not 'oh my, look at that emblem; he must be a doctor or a lawyer. I'ma touch his penis.' It's not a worldwide thing...they generally (but no, not always) make the same cars under their normal brands.

2) A lot has changed. Acuras still feel a lot like Hondas, and Infinitis feel a lot like Nissans...it's almost hard to put my finger on why. Some things are just very Honda. But in the last decade or so, Acuras, Lexuses, and Infinitis have started to feel a LOT more upscale. Again, it's kind of hard to define exactly what it is. Generally just more effort put into most aspects of the car.

But take a look back at some previous offerings. Acura Legend? Integra? Even the more recent RSX? Not a damn thing special about them. Nissan has had some really obvious ones, too. QX4? Pathfinder with some cheesy wood trim. I30? Maxima with some cheesy wood trim.

Grey areas. Get used to them.

All I was trying to say was that it's not fair to call your ILX an "overpriced Civic Si" when it's not the the one with the actual Si engine.. that's all.

I actually like the ILX.. and am considering it (but used.. maybe next year)

Tell me more about these thicker windows. Serious.

At what point can I actually brag about my "thicker" windows?
1mm, 2mm? Or is it more subtle?

My windows are so much more advanced, that you actually need a calibrated micrometer to see the superiority. Practically alien technology.

Please, please, please tell me, that you wear "7 for all capitalistic punks" jeans while driving your ILX, and feel the need to point out all of the minute differences between your stuff and Levis/Civics to the moronic plebes.

lmao I like how you call people who care about other factors of a car 'ridiculous' but it's not 'ridiculous' to adamantly defend your reasons for liking even more subtle factors. Pot meet kettle.
