One frequent jealous internet comment I've heard a million times over is that luxury cars are just overpriced versions of their cheaper counter parts.
I once heard someone say a Lexus LS (I used to own one) is just "a Toyota with leather." Yeah, truly the dumbest thing I've ever heard.
I drive an Acura ILX. While it is true my car shares many of the same parts as a Civic, the differences between the two cars is very noticeable. My car has better suspension (rides better), has a far more luxurious interior, better navigation system (larger screen), far far better stereo system, quieter ride (better insulation), thicker windows, LED headlights, completely different interior interface, numerous other small luxury refinements, and most of all......
far better looking exterior. The Civic, IMO, is super ugly.
My car stickered for like $33k. All that for $33k, I think it's a steal.
Point is, my car is a completely different car than the Civic. Engine is really the only similarity and that means little to me. I don't need 300hp and people who "think" they do are ridiculous. I'd rather have the extra mpg.
Back to the original point.
I think people are stuck in the 1990s General Motors mindset of duplicating cars and changing the nameplate. Anyone remember the Olds Bravada from the 90s? Or the original Escalade? Yeah, cars are rarely like that anymore.
Other brands like Lexus, Cadillac, or Infiniti have made huge improvements to set themselves apart from their parent companies and make their cars worth the money.
So please quit showing your ignorance of car brands for all the see and accept the fact that some of these luxury brands make great cars and are worth the extra money.
I think its time to let this on die as I see its headed down the gutter...
Next go around we need less "this is apples and that is oranges"...
