I might have to have a few beers tonight, but I got an early flight tomorrow so I'll play nice. Saturday night is up in the air though. I'll probably make up for not drinking too much tonight.

Yes, there is usually at least one thread going on ATOT where someone extols the virtues of an art house Ale or the incredible kick of a 50 a bottle liquor.
Or moans or brags about how much they drank last night.

But who is NOT going to drink this weekend?
BE and BT! FTW!

Why wouldn't I drink? Like most ATers (and indeed, most adults in the first world) I enjoy drinking an alcoholic beverage or two, paired with a meal. I rarely drink to excess, haven't gotten sick from it in years, and know when to stop.

If you don't want to drink, fine. Just don't rain on our parade. We're not rubbing it in your face, just discussing it.

Yeah I'm having a hard time gaining weight.

Plus I just dislocated my shoulder so lifting isn't going to happen for a bit.

Should I just drink a bunch of gravy and lay around all day?

I find it odd that people talk about drinking like it's fun or entertaining, but then explain why they do it with descriptions like "puking all night" and "did some really stupid things". Doesn't sound like a good time to me. I'll stay sober, thanks, but you go ahead and do whatever you want.

I don't see any problem with drinking to get drunk, either. It's your life.

Maybe this is what those dreams you mentioned are about.

There's different states of inebriated, sort of like speeding or sun tanning.

You can do 5-10 over just to shave a bit of time off your drive, or you can get completely reckless and do 30 over.

With tanning you can get a little bit of sun on you just to get a nice color or you can stay outside and turn yourself into a leathery piece of flesh.

Same with drinking, there's the couple beer "happy buzz" that you can easily ride and feel good, and then there's the complete full blown fall down, piss your pants look like an asshole drunk.

Like many things in life, moderation is a beautiful thing.

I'm gonna get hammered tonight, and then drink all day tomorrow! I don't puke or do stupid shit, instead I talk to women and have fun. I don't need alcohol to do that, but my odds of going home with a girl from the library are pretty low, and being at a bar sober is kinda pointless.

I often enjoy a fine imported beer (or domestic micro-brew), a glass of wine filled with a beautiful bouquet of flavor, or even a good scotch, neat and in a highball glass along with a tasty cigar and good company.

But sometimes, I just want to drink until there's a kidney in my fridge, a doorknob missing and a misdemeanor under my belt, with no recollection of the night before. Is that so bad?

Reread the bold text.

As long as the drunkard doesn't get in a vehicle or attempt to assault someone I won't have a problem with them either.

I enjoy many types of alcohol; rum, beer, scotch, starting to drink the tequila I got for xmas last year. Moreover, I thoroughly enjoy being drunk. Hell, the highlight of my week practically is getting home from work on fri or sat and just watching law and order or a movie with the wifey while getting nicely buzzed to downright smashed. Unfortunately, it's a lot of calories, and quite expensive, given my tolerance and the fact that I'm one huge bitch. So I'm cutting back.

What about the underlined text? The bold text seems to refer to drinking, period.
