Comparing 'to' in the thread title is not correct.

When one wishes to look for differences between two things that are fundamentally similar, then the correct grammatical usage is to compare one with the other.

Comapring one item to another, implies that the objects are fundamentally difference, but that in some ways, a similarity can be discerned. For example "Shall I compare thee to a Summer's day?". Clearly, the poet's beloved friend is not a day!
