Screw the NSX. It's too overpriced.
Honda needs a $30,000 - $40,000 sports car in the same ilk as the RX7/350Z/Supra

Considering that the new 350Z is less powerful than the previous TTZ, I don't think Toyota needs to make a car to have a "Z killer". Their MkIV Supra is a 350Z killer, and my 91TTZ is a 350Z killer.
It's a sad thing... times have changed and currently the market will no longer bear a high end sports car from these companies. What they can do is make an affordable car like the 350Z, and make it as fast as possible. The TTZ and the Supra were over $40k when they were out. You can get a brand new 350Z for $27k. You get a lot for your money, but you don't get a TTZ or Supra killer.

If I'm not mistaken, the 350Z is just as fast as the old 300ZX TT and weighs a few hundred pounds less.

The IS300 has the same engine as the late *non-turbo* Supra.
Just like the Infinity J30 had the same engine as the non-turbo 300ZX.
There are big-HP IS300's out there, but they use TT Supra engines. Why re-invent the wheel when Toyota already produced the engine you're trying to make?

You are aware that there is a supercharger available for the Z now. adds about 40%hp. so a turbo'd supra would run about even with a supercharged Z.

The supra is one of the most overrated cars ever. I'm not saying it's a bad car.... as it is a nice car, but it's expensive, and it's really not that fast, and the only reason that there's so much hype about it is cause it's from Japan. If it had been made in Europe or the USA, it wouldn't have the "See - imports are fast!" connotation that makes it so popular.

Yeah, but it's not from Nissan AFAIK. It's probably Stillen or some other company.
If the new Supra were going to still have the I-6, it would have to be turbo'd from the factory.

You do know that most turbo setups and supercharger setups "from factory" aren't designed in house.
and with the way laws are now, i can add a super charger or turbo and it won't void my engine warranty.
Only way to void engine warranties now is by changing cams, or internal components.
Mazda has stated that the RX8 is not a replacement for the RX7. IIRC, they also said they may re-release the RX7.Originally posted by: dafatha00

No, it's much more involved than that. You can't just slap a turbo on a non-turbo engine and expect it to work right. There are many, many little things that most people wouldn't realize are different.
For instance, on my Z, there's the following differences- The compression ratio is lower on the TT engine due to different pistons, the oil squirters are different to aim for a different section of the pistons, the oil pump is different (higher capacity), the valves are different (TT has inconel valves, NA has stainless steel), the fuel pump is different, the ECU is different, the exhaust manifolds are different, the fuel injectors are different (higher capacity on TT), and many other smaller parts.

You still don't walk in to a Nissan dealership and pick up a Supercharged 350Z with a full Nissan warranty. That's my point.
Maybe as stock, yes... but tell me running 9's on stock internals isn't impressive. I'll look for the link to back that up, but I know I've seen it more than once. The supra is one of the most overrated cars ever. Well you got to realize, that even when the supra comes back, it prob won't be turbo'd. Not all supras were turbo'd.
