The irony is that you're complaining about someone using an advertisement without your permission, when you're using it without Radio Shack's permission.

This is like complaining that someone stole all your warezed copy of photoshop.

Seriously, I'm interested to see what evidence you have that they did this. It seems to me you jumped to a conclusion by posting this thread to damage gottadeal's reputation .
You. are. blind.

Do you see my watermark? It says bf2004.net in white text with a black outline. When you see that, remember the location.

Now look at the original scan. You will notice where I put my watermark, the background is big star, little star, big star, little star.

Look @ GottaDeal's image, their background goes big star, blank, big star, little star.

If they truely had received the true scans from the same source as I, there would be a little star between the two big stars.

again you are missing what people are saying.

This is NOT YOUR PICTURE. also why did you make a post about it? why didn't you just do this in private? did you do it to ruin Ross's image?

While i agree they should have given you credit IF they did use your image. How you are acting is childish and immature. It seems you are trying to hurt the image of a competitor over something so damn trivial.

I also have a few questions since you decided to bring this to light,

#1. Did you scan them yourself?
#2. Did you create them to begin with?

If the answer is no (which it apparently is), i don't see how the hell you could claim any rights to them anyway. You don't own them. In fact, your watermarking them is probably in violation of Radioshack's copyright on their ads and they probably wouldn't like to see you claiming them as your own.

In conclusion, shut up 🙂

how the hell do you know that they actually edited the picture? isn't it possible that someone else that's not associated with gottadeals forums grabbed your image, took out your mark, and sent it to them?

Last I checked it was against the DMCA for ANYONE to use Radioshack's stuff without permission, hence why it became a matter of controversy for ads to be posted.

Analysis: you are both copyright infriging asshats, but one of you is also a whiner. Nobody cares, either.

It was first posted on my site.

And for those that say that the image isn't mine, I was given the ad. Just imagine I scanned the ad if that makes you feel any better.

And me watermarking the image is the same as IGN or GameSpy watermarking screenshots of a game. Did they create the game, no.

Hmm.. it's more complicated than that though.

I used to run a website and we had a competitor. We didn't know each other, but we credited each other, and we didn't take images or anything real -- we took links that we found or were submitted. It's just a friendly practice. It sucks that you guys don't have that between the two of you.

Yeah, too bad.

It's ironic because bradolsen, who co-runs GottaDeal, said this two days ago.
You could at least give GottaDeal.com credit for posting the scanned images
When I put up a .rar of images that had his watermark on them.

Maybe I should remove them now, since you all seem to think it's okay.

I have to say with all honesty and without a shred of hesistation that this thread, and the premise of "stealing" an image of a print advertisement that is no doubt available to thousands (if not millions) of consumers, is completely asinine. Worse than that? Doing such in a public manner, instead of contacting the individuals involved personally and privately.

No, go ahead and keep them hosted. But we expect Brad to post a thread any moment now whining about your business practices.

1. Talk.
2. Talk some more.
3. Beat his head into a wall.
4. Profit.

😀

The only legitimate reason for you to watermark that image is to help prevent someone from stealing bandwidth from you by directly linking to the image on your server from their site. You have absolutely no right to claim that image as your own. You may not have "stolen" the image, but you sure as hell have no claim on it as your work.

Quit your whining, you're making yourself look like an ass.

Why do you run the site?
1. To generate traffic so that you can use the site to generate ad-revenue?
or
2. As a service for deal hunters.

If it's 2 (and I am inclined to believe it's 2) then I see no reason why you should be complaining?

I don't believe what they did was correct/right/ethical.

If - that's IF - the other site took your images and removed your watermark to repost them on their own site, I don't think that's fair.

Arguments that

1. They could have made their own scan if they wanted to
2. You shouldn't have had the image posted in the first place, so you shouldn't complain

don't hold water with me.

Though i would like to hear RossMan or Brad response (or did i miss it? i can't read and my pet monkey misses stuff)

Brad took down the ads but didn't say anything about the watermark
