9300 is the replacement for Q6600. Q9450 doesn't fit into the price structure of any current intel cpus, though its clock speed is the same as Q6700.

oops, engineer beat me to the punch!

I've bought one in January, in a Swiss shop. (I'm Italian)
Of course it wasn't available and I'm waiting for it like all of you, but I paid it 250 EUR. A very good price, near the estimated 316$.

I have this damn PC almost finished, I WANT my CPU.

No, I believe the Q9300 is supposed to take the current pricing spot of the Q6600 at around $266. The Q6600 is supposed to officially drop in price in April to $225.

I also heard this as well. The Q6600's are suposed to drop in price in april.

Not that $1 makes much difference really but it is supposed to be $224 as of April 20.

Gersson :

I'm looking to go with DFI again for my next build (ie. 9450), I've had it with Asus, and my Gigabyte experience has only been so-so.

If you're willing to spend ~$255 for that Gigabyte X38 board, why not look at this other DFI board as well ...link ?

unless you need the extra 2 SATA connectors or you're an extreme audiophile there is no real point to getting the LT over the DK. Last I heard the LT's were getting phased out, atleast on the P35 line, in favor of the DK and once the x48 is hard launched I'm sure the LT x38 will go to phase out in favor of the DK.

I'll leave that to the early adopter

Divide the desired processor frequency number (in MHz) by 8 (if you will be running at the max multiplier for this processor which is 8).

So you'll get 3500/8=437,5.

Then multiply this number by 2 to get the DDR2-xxx number.

That would be 437,5*2=875

So DDR2 RAM that is rated at DDR2-875 or more will be able to not be the bottleneck of your CPU overclock (provided that the RAM works as advertised). =P

But it is a quad, and it might have harder time upping the FSB. That's why I'm personally getting good DDR2-800 (that most probably could OC to higher than what it's rated for anyway).

It's already a fun processor without any overclocking though..

Hey, thanks Nevbie

I like that other DFI mobo. However, I'm starting to remember how incredibly complex the DFI genie bios is compared to an Asus bios. How are gigabyte bios'?

Midnight Rambler, you said you had a so-so experience with Gigabyte -- can you elaborate?

Thanks

Board layout is my main beef. On some of their boards, like the DS3R Rev. 2.1 that I'm using, the 4-pin ATX12V socket is too near the (4) CPU HSF mounting points, making it very hard/impossible to the plug in the 4-pin if you have anything larger than the stock HSF installed (actually, the socket was within the boundary of the (4) mounting holes, not too smart IMHO). I posted in another thread about this, ended up doing some major modding to my HSF.

True, I just ref'd it because he was looking at the expensive Gigabyte X38 board too. But I also like the slots' color combo better. j/k :D

I'll probably stick with my DFI LP LT P35-T2R. I'm hoping Microcenter pulls another great coup and has an awesome Q9450 sale much like with they did with the E8400 when it launched. Their most recent $199 sale of retail Q6600s is an encouraging sign that they'll continue with the craziness (hopefully its even a sign that they're trying to clear inventory of the old quads :p)

I would doubt that; the current DK line is generally slightly inferior overall, 4 phase PWM (vs. 8 of the LT) 4 layer PCB vs. 6 (at least on the DK vs. LT P35).

The DK line really is more of a midrange solution for DFI, getting rid of the P35 and X38 would leave them with a pretty large gap between the DK and their top end LT X48-T3R.

Pretty sure the P35 and X38 LTs will stay until they're replaced by potential 'updates' such as with a P45 refresh and/or an X48 version that supports DDR2.

3.5 would be at least 8x437, so ram capable of ddr2 875 or better. I'd get some 4-4-4-12 ddr2 800 personally, last time I checked that stuff was DIRT CHEAP at newegg, as in 2x1gb for under $40 AR for good brands.

edit: drat, nevbie beat me to it! the 4-4-4-12 is still a good idea, however.

Shopblt has raised their pricing and are now on par with Tankguys (both $359).

As for that availability info, it just appears that they are linking to Ingram Micro's system for info. Based on how the E8400 went at lauch, e-tailers that use Ingram Micro for their drop shipping didn't fare too well. BUY.CON took forever to get E8400's and they no doubt have top priority with Ingram. ;)

incorrect, extra bandwidth unused at lower resolution by SINGLE GPU setups. It offers significant improvements for dual+ GPU setups. The 3870x2 especially likes it.

We aren't using Ingram though ;)

I've got chips shipping directly from the Intel plant in Malaysia.

Which is why anyone who seriously wants a 9450 relatively soon oughta pre-order from you (if it's still possible).

The backordered quantities already showing in IM's system are not encouraging ...

I bought the x3350 from PCsuperdeals.com

Called them up late afternoon and they had 15!
