not as overrated as his brother is.

His brother is a solid above average QB. If his name weren't 'Manning' you wouldn't have ridiculous expectations.

I think the "ridiculous expectations" are justified, considering how much he cried about not wanting to go to SD. Obviously he hasn't fulfilled them yet.

Drafted by the San Diego Chargers with the first overall pick in the 2004 NFL Draft. However, a draft-day trade sent ELI MANNING to the Giants.

Giants received

* Rights to 2004 1st Overall Pick, Eli Manning.

Chargers received

* Rights to 2004 4th Overall Pick, Philip Rivers.
* 2005 1st Round Draft Pick - Used to draft and sign Linebacker Shawne Merriman.
* 2004 3rd Round Draft Pick - Used to draft and sign Kicker Nate Kaeding.
* 2005 5th Round Draft Pick - Traded to Tampa Bay Buccaneers for Left Tackle Roman Oben
.

Looks to be more of an issue with Giants ownership than Manning. They could have taken Rivers and had the same players signed with the extra picks gained by the Chargers.

I'd rather have the Manning bastard child than Philip Rivers.

Chargers got the better end of that deal.

Yes because the Chargers have won the Super Bowl while the Giants haven't.

Rivers is up shit river without a paddle, Merriman has lost his edge since his roids were taken from him, Kaeding is a football juggernaut , and Oben was injured and now plays on special teams.

They could have traded the Rivers pick for others, or drafted another player. Merriman will continue to be an all pro player the majority of his career. Not much you can do about an after the fact injury. 10 field goal attempts by Kaeding this year, least in the NFL, not his fault.

Overall the Chargers got a lot more than they gave IMO, but then again I'm no fan of (either) Manning. But now they have Norv, they are doomed to fail until he is replaced.

If either team wanted to win a SB they should have traded down, gotten more picks, and picked up Big Ben.

And the biggest problem with their injuries right now is actually the lack of severity - because the players aren't going on IR, they can't sign replacements, which means they go to games only dressing 44 players, only 17 of which play offense...and then 2 of those 17 get hurt? Come on, that spells disaster for anybody. On the plus side (for Manning), it means that they'll be healthy soon enough.

IMO the only QB playing today better then Peyton Manning is Tom Brady. (and MAYBE Brett Favre)

When I speak of him being overrated, its in comparisions to the best to ever play the game & despite his outragous numbers I don't think he rates with Montana, Staubach, Stabler or Elway when it comes to the intangibles ... in other words theres no statistic that rates a QB's guts other then winning huge games
against top opponents with the team carried on your back & in that catagory hes not in my top 10.

Thats not to say he couldn't become one of the all-time great QB's in my personal record book, just that hes not there yet ... frankly after some more reflection on Sunday nights game I have to say that despite the loss he showed a lot of backbone.

You're a tool.

If that is based on your sig (assuming that you are an Edmonton fan and not old school Houston fan)....

You are a homer.

Face facts...Gretzky was not "The Great One" while in Broadway but a shell of his former self. While still better than most, he was clearly not able to live up to his standards.

The same is happening with Manning this season. One of the best QBs (statistically) of all time. Sure fire HoF career. 2007-08 NFL season....over-rated.

And for the record, I would take Roethlisberger and possibly Romo over Manning at this point in their respective careers. Their respective teams are winning because of their play as leaders and as QBs and they have a lot more upside than Mannings does now in his 10th season.

lol
This guy is funny.

He's a regular fvckin comedian with a statement like that.

It's really amazing how stupid people can be, one bad game and people want the colts to dump him, people are eventually going to have a bad game, for QBs like Grossman that can be every game or in the case of Matt Haselbeck that can be every third game(still a great quarterback to watch though). Manning imo is not overrated this year because when you listen to ESPN or whatever and they talk about Tom Brady over Peyton Manning they will say Brady is a better QB this year and a better playoff QB but Peyton Manning is still one of the best to play the game.
Also sorta off topic but on the commercial topic search Peyton Manning Whole on youtube and there is a 15min skit on his commercials(the "Tom Brady is a i love you" foundation is really funny).
@buck, looking at your sig it sounds like four isn't quite enough to deal with the hawk's season this year:(
