Let me be one of the first to call Peyton Manning....

I'm just talking about this season....not his career.

Thinking about yesterday's game...

Did Indy lose the game or did SD win it? Was Manning's case of happy feet a result of him regressing or SD's defense getting pressure on him? Were his INTs the result of tipped passes that SD defenders were able to get to or were they the result of good defensive plays?

Either way, Manning does not deserve the respect that he is getting from the writers and announcers this year. If you compare him to the other above average passers, he is near the bottom.

Here is where he is ranking:

6th in yardage (one of the stats that I think is over-rated for QBs)
14th in completion percentage
Tied for 8th in yards per completion
Tied for 5th in TDs (less than 1/2 of Brady's total)
Only 2 INTs from the league lead
10th in QB rating

I say that he is clearly over-rated this season. He is living off of his reputation and not performing up to it at all this year.

1. Marvin Harrison didn't play yesterday
2. Dallas Clark didn't play yesterday
3. A couple of offensive linemen were inured
4. it was raining practically the whole game
5. Philip Rivers couldn't do anything either due to the weather conditions.

Hmm the Patriots of 2003 and 2004 led the NFL (I believe in the history of the NFL at that time at least) in amount of players used due to injuries. Don't seem to recall them making a huge fuss about it, and it turned out ok for them.

That's why you need to build something called DEPTH in the NFL. Colts are finally getting hit by the injury bug that happens to all teams eventually.

That's what makes Brady so great!!! He never had or needed a Randy Moss, Wes Welker, or Donte Stallworth.

With out his big amunition. Manning looks like Rex Grossman.

over rated? thats funny. well ig uess he is not god as some think (though some caughPHOKUScaugh think brady is).

he is one of the most talented QB's in the leque now. him and Brady are so far above the rest its insane.

thepd7 - that thread was devoted to Manning shooting off his mouth again and blaming others instead of himself like he did last year when Pitt beat them in the playoffs.

KLin - every team has to play with injuries, poor conditions and against opponents of varying degrees of competence. I am not focusing on one game... instead his season as a whole. This game threw his INT totals out of whack but that still doesn't account for the deity-like coronation as the best or second best QB in the league this year like all of the experts have anointed him.

His past seasons warranted that talk then. But anyone making that case this far into this season for him is way off the mark. This isn't the first week or two of the season. It is over 1/2 gone.

What's his team's record? How does that stack up to the other teams? The guy with the current QB single season TD record is overrated because of 6 picks in a rainy game that they still could have won?

Overrated? or just retarded OP? it's pretty clear

Manning lovers can't spell 'cough' 😛

SD didn't win the game, Indy lost it. The blame rests squarely on the head of Manning and everyone involved with special teams.

As for Manning being overrated, nope, he's one of the very best QBs in the league.

I don't care for Manning (he did attend Tennessee after all) but he is hardly overrated.

injuries are a part of the game, bro. this isn't tag football. Payton should have been able to deal with this.

4. it was raining practically the whole game

this affected both teams, don't see how this an excuse for his poor play.

5. Philip Rivers couldn't do anything either due to the weather conditions.

he also didn't throw 6 INTs.

Oh, and OP...you aren't even among the first to call Manning overrated. He has been called overrated since his college days when Tennessee couldn't win the big game while he was QB.

Here you go!

"Manning graciously threw his offensive line and coaching staff under the bus after the Pittsburgh loss when he said "I'm trying to be a good teammate here. Let's just say we had some problems in protection.''

I think you need to use your brain just a little bit. Seems to me, I remember them winning the Super Bowl last year.

He's over-rated but yet he kept them in the game against the Patriots and the Chargers (even after he made several interceptions against the Chargers). He is right to be able to blame the special teams for losing them the game, they gave up two return TDs in the first quarter. What did the Chargers do with those 6 INTs? Ten points, that is all. Not to mention, from what I've gathered (and saw a one), there were several bad calls by the refs.

I agree that Peyton Manning is overrated & he played like crap yesterday, however despite him that loss was a team effort ... any one of about 10 plays made (or not made) by special teams & the defense would have led to a win.

That game said a lot more about how far SD has regressed since last season then anything else.
