The one time i got that, it actually came in handy. I got a replacement sent of General tires (crap), because the previous set lasted exactly 7K miles on my CLK.

So I brought my car to NTB to get some used tires from ebay mounted.....

I inspected everything prior to dropping the car off....the rim, the valve stems.....

I am at work waiting for my call to pick up my car. I wait...and wait....finally I call 5 hours later.

What's their excuse?

-Yeah, TPMS sensor is broken.

me: What? what part broke?

-Oh, the valve stem is bent really bad. We have to replace it. you probably did not notice it.

me: Ummm....it was fine when I looked at it.

-well, it's broken now.

me: well, when is it going to be done....

-Well, we cannot find the replacement part. Everyone is out of stock....

me: OK....so, what happens if you can't get a replacement part?

-We can plug it with a rubber stem.

I go to pick it up.....

-You need a wheel alignment....

me: Ummm...how bad is it.

-bad enough.

me: Just give me my car.

Sounds like they broke the TPMS to me. If the valve was bent enough to damage it I doubt it would have hold air and/or given a reading.

When I had to get tires on my Corvette I make sure they knew it had a TPMS and walked out to the car with them to inspect the wheels and valves. Sounds anal but it keeps anybody from saying "it was like that when you dropped it off..." and my Corvette has already had its wheels replaced once.

yeah....i know they broke it. It was between them and the place next to my job. NTB charged $15 to mount it....but I did not realize that it did not include TPMS reprogramming, which is not done on a Mazda 3.

I am guessing that they tried to dismount the old tire without removing the sensor. They claim they will replace it for free, but when I called this morning and they kind of hinted that they want me to pay.

i would have told them tough titties, stop breaking shit.

ive had flats many times, sometimes it is easy to get off the road, others not so easy. theres a stretch of the 202 here that literally has no shoulder or exits for 3 or 4 miles. i hit a 2X4 across the lane at 65mph in my impala, instant flat tire. crossed all 5 lanes to the right, there was only about 6ft of shoulder to stop on. hell no i didnt stop there. i rode that rim for 2 miles to get out of that area and to a place i could actually park and get out of my car without having a semi run me over. safety was worth the cost of the rim at that point.

The set I currently have came with Road Hazard from the manufacturer. Its only a year but its better than nothing.
