Conan supposedly has an IQ of like 180 or something. he graduated from Harvard and so did his dad (doctor), and his mom's a lawyer.

after being a writer for SNL he was a writer for the Simpsons: "Of the episodes he wrote while there, he considers "Marge vs. the Monorail" to be his favorite.

Wow ... it's been 12 years already? I remember Johnyy Carson retiring, and everybody bitching that the tonight show would tank without him.

If by tank you mean completely suck, then yes it has.

CONAN ROCKS!!!

Too bad that the earlier time slot of The Tonight Show will kill 90% of his humor 🙁

I don't think Conan O' Brien is particularly funny. He has many more "misses" than "hits". Jay Leno will be missed.

Conan O' Brien is better suited for the late, late night wanker crowd. I don't see him achieving the same mainstream success that Jay Leno has.

Conan's misses are part of the appeal. He allows the common, un-funny man to identify with the odd looking fellow in the magic box.

and who's gonna replace Conan? Triumph?

anyways:
Reports at the time were that fellow talk-show host and Leno pal David Letterman was upset about not having been given the job. A year later, Letterman moved from NBC, where he had worked for 11 years, to CBS where his "Late Show with David Letterman" competes with Leno's "Tonight Show."

anyone who was around that time know why Letterman didn't get the job?

Cause leno sucks and letterman blows?

huh...but Leno will continue with his stand-up touring, right? I mean, they said that he's still on the road 150 days out of the year.

Gotta pay for that car fetish somehow 😉

I don't think there are any cars left that he doesn't have.

Leno is (or at least was) a brilliant standup - I used to relish his appearances on Letterman, where he always killed - but his Tonight Show is lame and gutless IMO. I don't know that this is a promotion for Conan, because the show will be expected to be pretty toothless, and I don't think his material will work if it's too dumbed-down. I guess we'll see.

How old is Conan anyway?

Born 18 April 1963
So he'll by 46 when he takes the job; I'm a bit surprised they went with someone so old in that context, since if he were to retire before 60 like Leno, he won't have even held the job for 14 years.

They should get Jerry Seinfeld for the Tonight Show and leave Conan where he's at.
