So says this medical expert and expected Senator-to-be:
Rep. Todd Akin, the Republican nominee for Senate in Missouri running against Sen. Claire McCaskill (D), justified his opposition to abortion rights even in case of rape with a claim that victims of “legitimate rape” have unnamed biological defenses against getting pregnant.

“First of all, from what I understand from doctors [pregnancy from rape] is really rare,” Akin told KTVI-TV in an interview posted Sunday. “If it’s a legitimate rape, the female body has ways to try to shut that whole thing down.”

Akin went on to explain that even if the worst happens and the supposed natural protections against unwanted pregnancy don’t work, abortion should still not be a legal option for the rape victim.

Wow that's is a sad level of stupidity from someone wanting to be a Senator. God I hope the people of Missouri are smart enough not to vote for that moran.
 
Does that guy have any daughters? Lets all go to Missouri and rape them. Legislators don't give a crap about real people until they are affected themselves.

Whether or not sexual intercourse occurred as rape does not affect the probability of pregnancy. Sex is sex. You can't get any more/less pregnant if it was rape or not.

Depends on where in Missouri you're talking about. Kansas City, St. Louis and Jefferson City are large Democratic strongholds; Springfield is probably half & half; most of rural MO is Republican. Of course there are Democrats in rural MO and Republicans in urban. Single issue pro-lifer's will want Akin and that's a sizable portion of the state

As far as smart, couldn't say. Most of rural MO would see that statement by Akin and not bat an eye or raise an eyebrow.
