So... I went on the website and read through the episode descriptions and it has absolutely nothing to do with the book. I thought they were going to be doing this based on the book but it seems like it's just based in the same world with the same players.

I will download it but have 0 expectations.

Good thing. My mom (loves Goodkind) warned me to go in with no expectations, so I think I liked it better than she did, but all the differences are really annoying. I'll still probably watch every episode because I'm a glutton for mediocre SciFi/fantasy.

Oh dear God in heaven, tell me you're kidding. Donaldson is one of the finest writers of our generation. Not necessarily the best fantasy and sci-fi stories, but for raw technical ability and literary talent he has no peer.

Exactly. Sorry waffle, you just lost all credibility for judging fantasy writers. Donaldson is one of the best. However, I will admit that if you don't like anti-heroes, Donaldson may not suit your taste.

Sorry the books(donaldson) were not very compelling. I had no reason to care about anything that was going on in any of them. Everything just seemed forced and drawn out and tired. Me reading Donaldson=Bored Silly.

Wow. The First Chronicles is one of the best fantasy series ever written. Easily up there with LOTR and Narnia (if you ignore the allegory) as far as great plot, pacing, use of language etc.

Try Mordant's Need if you're just not into Covenant. Those are also great books.

I would like to point out the Goodkind is fucking poser. He STOLE every single bit of plot from Robert Jordans' Wheel of Time. Literally everything.

I watched it with my gf who has read the book (I have not read) and she was disappointed in all the changes from the book. I wasn't overly impressed so it will have to improve a bit over the next few episodes to keep my interest.

I hated the Chronicles. Good pacing? It was uber-boring.

Mordant's Need however is a very rewarding read, and only 2 books long. Recommended.

I haven't seen it, but from the descriptions and reviews here, it sounds like it was something that could have benefited greatly from Uwe Boll's fine directing talent.

Chronicles, while exhibiting masterful technical writing and literary skills, IS too slow for many people. Donaldson's short stories are a better sample of his true talent, or the Gap Cycle if you want something longer. Again, many may not enjoy his work, but from a purely literary/language standpoint he is in a class by himself.

Yep. You can literally list over 20 characters, races, plot lines, etc. that are basically carbon copies.

Strange, I always thought Mordant's Need was slower than Covenant, though still excellent. The Gap Series is amazing, if you don't mind the fact that the main character starts out as one evil SOB. It's a pity that Donaldson writes so slowly, but I can't complain about quality over quantity.

It is resembling Hercules/Xena quite a bit. What's with the "story of the week" format? They should have just stuck to doing one season out of Wiz 1st Rule.

But I think it failed from the get-go with the casting choices. Kahlan isn't that bad even though she plays the character all wrong, but Richard looks 16 and he's frenetic and impulsive which book Richard was not.

i watched 7 episodes on Hulu and I think it's pretty decent. I've never read the books though so I have nothing to base this on. The chick that plays Kahlan is hot though.

I've been watching this show for the last couple months and I think it's actually gotten pretty decent. The show where Richard confronts Darken Rahl was one of the best so far. The fight scenes are fairly well done too.

Plus Denna is getting much more screen time. 😀

Interesting. I thought Craig Parker was a weird choice since he is only 13 years older than Craig Horner (but doesn't even look that much older).

Jennsen DID mention that her mother got very upset when she asked about her father, so maybe they're still going with it and ignoring the age thing. How else will they explain off a pristinely ungifted and a powerful wizard just happening to be brother and sister? Or maybe they don't anticipate the series going that far. Who knows.
