Answer this question: were you involved in an accident on that day? Yes or no. Stop with all this "why would I" crap and just say yes or no.

OP, how can you not know if you were in an accident or not?

You obviously are withholding details from us. Did you, or did you not drive the accused car on 5/5/2012?

People with insurance run all the time. If they're drunk, if they're in a hurry, if they just don't care, if they think they won't get caught, etc.

I'm not accusing you of anything. I'm just saying it looks fishy. You should be prepared for the same reaction from the cops and your insurance company.

No i wasn't.

I have 2 cars with 2 different insurance companies. I let one lapse while i drive my other car with active insurance. Not the ideal thing to do, but had something come up.

Anyways, I WILL UPDATE this thread after the weekend. Its useless to reply without talking to the police themselves or hearing from the police.

Are you the only person who only drives that car and no one else? Hard to believe that it was involved in a "hit and run" and you can't remember if it was. Is that the whole story or you're not giving ATOT what really happened?

Why are you so calm about this? Your car, which you said you did not drive, and which was stored, and yourself are being accused of a hit and run. Why are you not more worried about this?

Why are you focusing on the insurance details? You're not telling us the entire story.

The fact that you aren't more pissed off about this is making it seem like you were involved somehow. Stop being a pussy and just give the honest truth on everything.

I would contact the police to get the jist of what they are after, without giving any information. Then I would not talk to them at all.

twista if you aren't going to drive a vehicle you don't need to let the insurance lapse (bad idea anyway). when i had my truck and motorcycle we would put storage insurance on it. cost like $10 a year.

IF you didn't do it then there shouldn't be any marks on your car. shrug it seems like a easy case.

FWIW I have seen instances where people added electrical tape to change numbers on their plate... I had a buddy who was getting toll tickets in the mail with pics of some other car but what appeared to be his plate. The cops said it was fairly common for people to do that sort of things.

I've never been a fan of the "I don't recall if I was in an accident" defense. It never works.

The better defense is "He was homeless. Why are you harassing me? Shouldn't I be getting some sort of medal?" defense. Works EVERY* time.

If you didn't get in an accident on the 5th and I'll assume you didn't loan the car to someone else and the there doesn't seem to be any damage, why wouldn't you call them and say, I think you are mistaken and explain the situation? There really is no need to give insurance info if you're disputing their claim and getting insurance now seems to be totally unnecessary.

A) Why did your insurance lapse?

C) Did you hit their car?!


I had an asshole hit & run my 2 day old car several years back. I found their car the next morning at the end of the street where they'd parked it a few inches from their fence in order to block view of the damage to their car from the street.

The police didn't care at all and didn't help out.

I took the cars owner to small claims court and they had a lawyer come showing a passport stamp supposedly proving they were not in the country when my car was hit... and that was it.

They didn't care that she owned the car that hit my car since I couldn't prove who was driving it. The judge even said something to me about life not being fair or something to that effect and somehow despite knowing their car struck my car they couldn't do anything for me.

1. "I don't remember" = BS
2. "Were you in an accident", "No" = HE was not the one driving (possibly)
3. "Why would you not report it if you had insurance?" = Insurance rates = 2X to 3X more than insurance payout for claim. You get in an accident, you pay in the long run.


The fact that he has not come right out and flatly said "I have not done XYZ" combined with things like the car being ut in a garage and not used for weeks, 2 days after the reported accident, means someone drove that car, hit someone, and did not report it.

Or something else happened and this is just a good way to keep attention on it rather than that "something else".... :eek:

Sorry Twist, but this story you have is just is not ringing true.....
