IMHO, L4D should never have been a stand-alone retail game. It's about the equivalent of Counterstrike or Team Fortress... not worth paying more than $10 as an add-on for.

This backlash is totally retarded. You can still play L4D when L4D2 comes out, and Valve claims they haven't abandoned updating the older game. If the new game is good, buy it and play it. End of story.

Yeah but the beauty of L4D is playing multiplayer (co-op and versus), when l4d2 comes out, it'll decimate multiplayer and render l4d worthless.

Put simply, Left 4 Dead 2 is everything Left 4 Dead 1 should have been.

Think people are going to keep those dedicated servers running for the old game? You won't be able to play Left 4 Dead 1 like you used to.
Wow, just like Counter-Strike 1.6 when Source came out? Oh wait.
Set up a server yourself if your favorites get shut down. You have no inherent rights to community-run servers or free content.

Damn, man, how many more times do you need to play through No Mercy? Seriously, around my twentieth time with the twentieth different team, I kind of got the sense I'd pretty much covered it, you know. Did you play Bioshock 20 times?
As I said, this should NOT be compared to team-based multiplayer shooters. It doesn't have endless replayability like those games and, as such, doesn't have the same kind of community as them. That said, I'm sure there will be price cuts for L4D and package deals with L4D2 to bring in some new players. There will also always be those, post L4D2, who want to play the old maps again. And there will also be those, like you, who are, for some reason, hopelessly attached to L4D1 who will keep it going. Either way, it should be still thriving for the next half decade and lingering probably indefinitely....plenty of time for your centennial completion of Blood Harvest.

With any luck, they'll have a promo period where current L4D owners can snipe it for $20. Which I think is reasonable, given that it will double the L4D universe.
Nat
Yet another reason I loathe not having the right to resell my purchases I've made that require Steam.
Snip
In short, L4D will be completely worthless
How much were you planning to recoup on something you'd consider worthless?

Dear Valve,
EA suggests you start using the year of release naming convention right away to avoid any akward titles that you could possibly come up with. L4D Extreme, L4D Pure Adrenaline and L4D The New Generation may sound good in coming from the marketing department, but trust the people that are telling you that you might as will just name them L4D 2010, 2011 & 2012.

Wow just like Counter-Strike Source came out 4 years after 1.6 having time to build up a large user created community? Wait, Left 4 Dead 2 is coming out less than a year after the first.
I have the right to vote with my wallet and I certainly will.
