I just realized I fucked up that chord progression.

It's "a minor - Ab major aug - C major 6/4 - D major 6", not "a minor - a minor aug 6/4 - C major 6/4 - D major 6".

Duh.

-1 on music theory for me.

There are an infinite number of note combinations, but only a tiny fraction of them sound pleasant. It's inevitable the favored few combos will be repeated over and over, but with an infinite variation of timing, instrumentation, and style. Art is most often appreciated by noticing the details, not the gross structures.

Music is not random. Harmonies and scales have a mathematical basis. These ratios are what make the vibrations our ears pick up pleasing or "out of place."
