i agree with you about clothes in general, but i think shoes are a little different... the fact that several nba players will actually use them in their games tells you they must be decent quality/comfort

Wow, I get called ignorant in another thread pointing out the douche-bag LeBron really is. I'm glad I stumbled across this one so that I didn't feel so ignorant (not that I ever really did ROFL).

this is true. the last few years, i havent played much basketball because of school and work but before than I played a lot..almost every day in the summer for 2 hours. I used regular nike and adidas basketball shoes that i got for like 40 bucks, but they world tear my feet up and ear out in about 2 months. Then i got a pair of Mcgradys and they were awesome...still using it today after almost 2 years.

Odd, same exact story for me as well. The Tmacs were damned comfortable compared to the rest. Even the Jordans screwed up my feet.

yeah the tmacs are the best basketball shoes I ever had. It is very well constructed, my other shoes would start coming apart at the big toe because of my style of play, but the tmacs are solid.

i love what he's doing!

Apparently, it's made like an Air Jordan Nike shoe.

On March 23, 2007, Starbury was featured in a segment on the ABC show 20/20 (edition entitled "Enough!"), hosted by John Stossel. The segment dealt with the high price of sneakers and the role of Starbury and Marbury as an alternative. During the show, Marbury stated "If you take my shoe and you take a $150 shoe, cut it down in half, and it do the same exact thing.". The host Stossel puts Marbury's statement to the test and a pair of Starbury One's are brought to Professor Howard Davis, Shoe Design department professor at Parsons The New School for Design. Davis proceeds to cut apart the Starbury One's and a pair of "$100 plus Air Jordan's" and states "They're constructed the same way". Stossel then mentions "others in the business" came to the same conclusion.

I knew all the money would get to his head.
A few years ago, I thought he had a good grasp on life and was somewhat of a class act.
Now the arrogance is showing.

Look at how much money Nike spends in advertising and endorsements. I bet their shoes are cheaper to produce than the Starbury's. As much money as they shell out to athlete's in almost every sport I bet 80% of the cost of their products goes to paying advertising/endorsements. I don't even wear basketball shoes, but I'll go out and buy a pair of these just to help out a better company.

once again the atot crew piles on someone who is rich and successful - and those of you calling him another POS pro athlete have ZERO idea what you are talking about.

Here is the entire discussion - in CONTEXT this time, from the NY Post:

Before the game, he sounded like an unofficial spokesman for Stephon Marbury's sneakers. That is, until James was asked if he'd lower the price on his own signature shoe.

Then, it seemed like he took a veiled shot at Marbury's cheap kicks. While James said Marbury was helping the community with the $14.98 "Starbury" sneaker, he won't ask Nike to follow. Asked about the appeal of Marbury's kicks, the Cavs forward answered, "It's definitely the price.

"And growing up in the inner city, at times a family can't afford $120 shoes or $90 shoes," he said. "So you get an opportunity to play basketball in your shoes and you can afford it, and your family lifestyle doesn't change. It's definitely smart on their part."

James had no idea if the quality was the same as his Nike line. The "Zoom Lebron IV" retails for $150, and there are no plans to cut the price.

"No, I don't think so," James said. "Me being with Nike, we hold our standards high. And we do a great job of putting out great merchandise, great shoes. And it does come with a price that is pretty high. But at the same time, you're getting great quality for it."

Taken in proper context, nothing James said was in any way, shape, or form out of line. Of course the appeal of the Marbury shoe is the price. And Nike pays him 100M - do you think he should come out and say that the $15 shoe is the same quality as his own shoe line is?

Get over it, some people have more money/success/fame than any of us do.

Why is everyone so butt-hurt about his 35,000 square acre house? He has the money, so he can afford it.

Two years ago, I was buying jackets from thrift stores, but I now have a 120K job & just bought a $300 jacket because I could.

Believe me, if I had 120 million, I probably wouldn't be buying $300 jackets.

Why do you buy so many jackets?

Anyway, my old Nike's were falling apart so I was gonna buy some of these Starbury's until I found a pair of Prince brand tennis shoes today that are very nice for $10 at Sam's Club. $10 and they are every bit as nice as any $80-100 pair of Nike or Reebok's I've ever had.
