Before the game, James took a little shot at Marbury's $14.98 kicks, saying he couldn't imagine endorsing a sneaker that cheap.

"No, I don't think so," James said. "Me being with Nike, we hold our standards high."

Marbury, who is friendly with James, was lacing up his Starburys before the game when informed of LeBron's comment. He thought about it for a moment and said, "I'd rather own than be owned."

Interesting, i wonder if Nike would be uhappy with those comments. Personally, it makes me want to avoid Lebron's shoes and go for Marbury's shoes with a jerk comment like that.

Hmm, where I come from we would call that a "Buuuuuuuuurn!" :D

"We hold our standards high" my butt. Another physically-talented, mental midget, busted out of the ghetto and got drafted by the NBA loudmouth sellout.

Haha, awesome statement by Marbury.

Lebron should have said something like, "As you guys know I am with Nike at the moment. However, I think what he is doing is great for kids and families. I wish him the best."

That would have been classy.

I used to rip through $150 Nike's in about 2 months. I wouldn't be surprised if the $15 shoes Marbury sells are of at least the same quality.

FWIW, Ben Wallace was recently added to the Starbury line of shoes.

i believe Ben gets a percentage of sales, rather than huge endorsement deals like the other big shoe companies.

i think it's a good message to lower income kids. good for Big Ben and Marbury.

yeah, both of them don't get paid an endorsement fee but make back a percentage of sales. too bad they're only available at steve and barry's, it'd be better if they were easier to find...

It's a shame that the only way to produce shoes at $14.98 is to have them manufactured in countries where labor laws are, at best, loosely enforced. Since Nike manufactures their shoes in the same fashion, it makes you wonder how huge of a premium the consumer pays for their product. Such is life.

But he also made it clear that he won't be engaging in another type of leadership. James said he won't respond to several letters he's received from political activist Ralph Nader, who urged James to take a public stance in support of workers' rights at overseas plants that produce the shoes he endorses. "No, I haven't responded to it," James said. "But I think Nike's a great company and they would respond if need be."

What a dumbass.
