When he came out of the game with 2:30 left, having outscored the entire Westchester team at that point, he raised his arms to the crowd and the fans responded with "we are not worthy" bows.

So a judge overturned his suspension because how much money found his way to his pocket?

I don't think you should roll your eyes at your assumption the judge received a monetary bribe, I think you need to roll your eyes at the fact they tried to rule him ineligible for the rest of the year because some guy gave him 2 free over-priced jerseys. So what if he's cocky as hell, I don't like it, but the sentence was a little harsh in the first place.

especially considering the fact that they could have just told lebron to give the stupid jerseys back to the store. such foolishness.

He returned them once he got shafted initially. Fortunately they commuted his sentence. 😉

It seems like a ridiculous amount of attention to be giving some kid in High School. The support system that he has around him, notably his parents, coach, and school, are all tremendous leeches. The kid can play some ball, hopefully they won't ruin him like other highly touted recruits have been.

Why again did the judge overule it? To me at least, it seemed like a logical sequence of action: There are rules... Lebron broke a rule... the guy in charge enforced this rule.

I don't understand how a judge comes in and says "well, he broke a rule... and the consequences is clearly stated that you should sit out the remainder of the year... but I think I'll shorten it because... I'm a judge 😎"

The problem here isn't the sentence or anything like that. The problem is why his "crime" made national headline news in the first place. It shouldn't have. Like I said before, I'm jealous of his talent and his wealth and his god-given ability. But until the kid (who's a year older then me) matures, i'll look for someone else to envy.

Put yourself in the kid's shoes...wouldn't you take the jerseys? C'mon he is in high school. I didn't even know they had rules for these types of things at that level.

What rule did he break? A friend/wannabe gave him 2 free jerseys. So what? He didn't receive anything from any colleges or scouts, nor did he accept them as a bribe. From what I've read, it was just a friendly jesture. Just seems to me like some guy that worked/owned the local sports shop just wanted Lebron to remember him when he hit's it big.

"Ohio High School Athletic Association bylaws state that an athlete forfeits his or her amateur status by "capitalizing on athletic fame by receiving money or gifts of monetary value."

More specifically, the OHSAA 2002-03 Athletic Eligibility Information Bulletin states in part that, "You may receive an award or merchandise as a result of your participation in school or non-school competition from any source, provided the value does not exceed $100 per award.""

52 points in a high school game. Big deal.

Now if it were college level competition then I might be impressed.

I understand that rule, but I don't understand how he 'capitalized' on athletic fame by receiving the two jerseys worth $800+. I've read those rules before, so don't think I weren't aware of them. I just see the jerseys, though, not that they cost a absorbatant amount of money.

So you're saying, if he wasn't on ESPN every week playing basketball, in projected to be the #1 pick in a couple months in the NBA Draft, will probably collect in excess of $100 million in the next 5 years for playing basketball, then he still would have gotten the jersey's?

I never said that. I said the whole freakin punishment of them taking his eligibility away in the first place was ridiculous. The couple game suspension should've been called in the first place. I'm saying he was singled out because of his fame at his young age.

Had you been in his shoes with the same skills and the same 'love' for basketball, you would've accepted the jersey's too. Someone trying to give you something you want, you wouldn't take it? And don't give me any bullsh!t about how you wouldn't because you're a good little boy, remember, this is hypothetically speaking.
