I'm leaving my haven of Democracy and freedom (Yes, Canada you fvcks) to visit some reletives in the Oakland area. Concord, to be exact. I'll be down there for a week, and would like to see some sights. I'm already planning on going to San Francisco for a day, seeing Alkatraz 'n stuff, and I'd like to see San Diego, and some of LA as well. What else shouldn't I miss?

Just FYI, L.A. is 400 miles from San Francisco. Lots of people (typically people from small east coast states) seem to think they're within an hour or two drive of each other.

Oh, and 400 miles is 650km.

What kind of stuff do you like to do? I've lived in NorCal my whole life so I can probably tell you something interesting to do within an hour or two of SF :).

Some nature, maybe? I like forests. I like military stuff, too. Hence why I'm going to San Diego, hoping to see a carrier in port or something

I have a great idea when you step foot on American soil after crossing the boarder take a deep breath to smell the greatest country in the world THEN turn around and look for the sign "now leaving the united states" Read it then keep on walking back to your country.

You realize that San Diego is an extra 100km or so past LA from San Francisco?

Map of California

If you want to see some nauture, try heading south on Hwy 1 from San Francisco. It heads south along the coast to Santa Cruz, where you can see plenty of nature at the beaches, or you can head up into the mountains a couple miles from the coast and visit one of the parks like Big Basin.

I think that guy was joking, too... at least I hope so.

When I was in the Bay Area, I went to some redwood forests (I think it was Big Sur or something like that), Monterey, SF Wharf, SF Chinatown, Napa (wine country)

Alcatraz at night is awsome. Its summer though so it gets dark to late to really enjoy it.

Unless you're a really strong swimmer, you're gonna want to pay for the boatride to the island.

You have to pay. I was there last year but can't remember what they charge.

You have to pay for it its a boat ride plus a tour of the facility. Tickets were $25 and up depending on which tour you pick

LOL -enjoy the six hour drive to San Diego. :)

If you like nature, check out Muir Woods in the Bay Area. Visit Angel Island in addition to Alcatraz. Drop by Golden Gate Park for a look at what's left from the World Fair early last century. Go a little north and spend a day with your relatives at Lake Sonoma or Lake Mendocino. Visit Napa and at least drive around. Go to some wineries and do wine tasting. Check out Mission San Francisco if you're into that kind of history stuff. You can do your standard touristy stuff - Coit Tower, the Marina, Pier 39, the trollies. The Marinetime Museum is neat as well. Plenty of touristy attractions.

Do a little research on the web. County and city homepages usually have good tourist info.

i've lived in norcal my whole life too...

can you tell me something interesting to do here? heh

This summer has been pretty fun for me actually. Went to City Nights (San Francisco 18+ club) to dance, went to Six Flags Marine World (the dolphin show was the best attraction there...), and went to a bunch of baseball games.

BTW, I live in Walnut Creek (right next to concord), but a lot of my friends live in Concord and my dad works there. How old are you?
