Why do you think the Mini 2 will sell poorly?

I said should. It WILL sell millions and millions of units, maybe more than any single Android tablet. I am just saying that IMHO this Retina iPad Mini 2 is easily the weakest iDevice update ever (except for one of those bumps where they just added a higher storage tier).

I don't know how you guys even keep all of the iPad models separate anymore. I honestly have no idea what my regular one is...retina screen, but pretty fat.

As much as I like Touch ID, I think in the iPad mini line the original Retina iPad mini is the best value and will sell very well.

I would only consider the new retina mini a decent value if it gets 2 GB of RAM.

Ah okay. That's actually called the iPad Mini 3 now. It's a pathetic update IMO.

Thanks god I didnt wait for the new Mini, pulled the trigger on a discounted $300 iPad mini 2 in July. 😛
A7 in last years Mini was a pretty bold move by Apple, they want to make people pay more for their latest and greatest SoC. I was expecting A8+1GB RAM though.
Anyway, looking forward to iPad Air 2 reviews.

Isn't that a for sure no now that they are keeping the same SoC?

I think the mini retina will come with one gigabyte of RAM, but you never know. In fact we don't even know if the new iPad air 2 has 2 GB RAM, although I expect it to have 2 GB RAM. It also should be noted that the iPhones which have that new A8 (but not X) SoC only have 1 GB RAM.

It certainly seems the days of the iPad Mini being the value leader in the lineup are over. I assume going forward it will be like the iPadc

Damn looks like the $50 iPad coupons at Best Buy for college students expired last week. I'm kind of regretting not getting the iPad Air for $350 that they had a couple months ago. If it's between a $400 iPad Air and a $500 iPad Air 2, that makes the decision a bit tougher, especially if the Air 2 has 2 GB of RAM.

Edit: Apple is selling refurbished mini Retinas for $249 and iPad Airs for $339. Tempting

LMAO, the ipad mini 3 is $100 more than the ipad mini 2. They have the exact same components EXCEPT for that $5 touchid piece. You're paying $5 for a touchid sensor. LOL.

I'm pretty tempted by the mini 2 with the price drop. The refurb prices haven't caught up with the price drop yet. I wonder if it'll be the same $50 off? I'd really like the 64gb, but they aren't offering it on the mini 2 anymore.

I like how you found that fact out and you came into this thread foaming at the mouth. Had it been an A8x processor in side, you would've STFUed.

Honestly the better way to look at it is the iPad Mini 2 was $399 yesterday. Today you get the same device at $399 with TouchID. Don't like it? Don't buy it. There are some years where technology just isn't going to leap forward that much.

The mini 2 refurbs are available on the Apple Store now. $249/299/349 for the 16/32/64 gb models.

Very disappointed in the Mini 3. I have an original mini that is getting long in the tooth. Obviously I don't upgrade until performance says it must and with iOS 8 I must. I really like the form factor but not going with dated tech like I did with the mini, I wanted a longer stretch. So looks like we are getting Air 2's. My wife is happy she can get a gold one to match her phone.

If I order the iPad to be shipped to me through the edu store with free shipping, can I return it for a full refund if I don't open the box? I know there's a 10% restocking charge if I open the box for a retail store purchase.

if I can order it worry free as long as I keep the box closed then I may just do that in case it does get 2 GB RAM for the iPad Air 2.

Why not just wait a week or so and see what the Internet finds out?

Because I'm currently on vacation and it would be nice to have it while I'm still on vacation. (Staycation).

Plus this laggy 2012 Nexus 7 is driving me nuts, and my wife hogs the iPad 2.

The return policy looks good.
