^ it can happen with any kind of tablet, not just iPads.

Cameras on iPads have a use for video calls/conferences/hangouts, but not for outdoor photography.

Just out of curiosity, since we're starting to get bigger and bigger phablets, at what point does it become unacceptable to take a picture with some device? Where's the cutoff point between perfectly acceptable because it's a phone and obvious social deviant who needs to be placed in a reeducation camp?

There is no clear cut definition, but for me it's as simple as this: If it fits in your pocket, it's acceptable to use as a camera.

I remember being in a museum a couple years back and this kid and his mom both had iPads which they were using to take up close photos of the exhibits and stuff. It was annoying because the iPads took up a lot of the view for those of us behind the two. Oh and they had the flip covers so those were hanging down, blocking even more view as they held their iPads up. Some people just don't realize and/or care about those around them.

Acceptable? Who gives a shit what someone thinks? Who is the authority on such a ridiculous thing? Why would anyone care?

I gave a pretty clear cut example of where it does become a nuisance for those around you. Another would be at any kind of large event. I've seen people holding their phones up high to take photo and video, and I've also seen people do it with tablets. It's no fun being behind the guy using his iPad to film and take pics. The device is large enough to annoy others behind you. That is why someone might care. If you're just taking pictures while not in a crowed then obviously no one cares.

I just don't think its smart. Every time I see someone do that I think "Hey bad guy, I have an iPad you can come steal!"

Nice iPad Air 2 presentation... then they say absolutely nothing about the iPad Mini 3 other than a few vague specs. You can see what Apple thinks of their cheaper tablet, haha.

Every iPad Mini sold is a potential lost sale of a full size (and more expensive) iPad Air. ;)

I missed the presentation, what did they say about the base storage on each model?

16GB $500, 64GB $600, 128GB $700.
iPad Mini 3 is $100 cheaper.
LTE is $130 more.

iPad Air ($400), iPad Mini 2 ($300), and iPad Mini ($250) are all staying.

So they really expect you to pay 100$ extra for the touch ID, or maybe the gold color?
I think the old mini 2 might be a great seller this year.

Boo on the 16gb, but is the 32gb model gone now? I guess we're moving up slowly....

With that said did anyone catch the camera on the iPad Air? Didn't they say 1.1 microns?? That should make it better than the iPhone camera?

I cant believe they cheaped out and didnt up the chip in the retina mini

I can kind of understand why. 3 billion transistors is a pretty huge chip and that has to increase the manufacturing cost. Not to mention that they could very well be constrained to how many wafers they can get from TSMC.

32 GB model gone, just like the iPhone 6. This will induce me to pay the extra $100 for the 64 GB. Gold for me, Air 2. That is, if it has 2 GB RAM. If it has 1 GB, I'm not interested.

Huge letdown regarding the Mac Mini. At the very least I expected SSD to become standard. They lowered the base price and gave it a weak processor. Unbelievable.

iPad Mini felt like an afterthought today. Maybe they deem it thin and light enough for now?

No iPod talk. Probably will never be updated again.

Yeah, surprised the original iPad Mini is still sticking around. It's a pretty low end device with the 1024x768 display and I think A5 processor. You'd be nuts not to spend the extra $50 on the Mini 2.

Speaking of nuts. Who is buying the iPad Mini 3? $100 more for basically just a Touch ID button?

Last year I bought the iPad Mini 2 because it's had almost the same specs at the iPad Air, but $100 less (afterwards I realized the display quality wasn't quite the same). It was hard to buy the Air. Obviously Apple doesn't want to repeat that situation again. Kind of a shame.

They probably have left-over stock they want to get rid of so it's still available. Either that or it's just a way of making the other models look more attractive for their price.

I find it funny that with the improved camera, even more people will probably be taking pictures with them much to the annoyance of some here.

They are still going to sell what is basically an iPad 2 in 2015?

My 2011 iPad 2 is feeling pretty smug today. ;)
Here's hoping for a significant speed boost for the iPad mini and iPad 2 with iOS 8.1.

My only Apple machine that is feeling even more smug is my 2009 13 inch MacBook Pro, which gets the full fledged Yosemite 10.10 today.

By the way, I suspect the iPad mini is going to sell quite well this Christmas season, despite its crappy specs. It is the perfect iOS machine for little kids, from a price perspective, especially since many younger kids tend to be less critical about absolute performance.

iPad 2 and its hardware will live forever. Even the 3rd generation and iPad 4 were removed from the store when the next generation was released. But not the 2!

Yes I would have felt smug about my mid-2009 MBP as well, except I sold it a couple of months ago

Yup yup. Long live the 2009 Macbook Pros and iPad 2s! Best Apple values I have ever gotten.

So what the the consensus here for family recommending? It seems to me the Air 2 is maybe the best iPad since the iPad 2 if it really has 2GB of RAM, while the Retina iPad Mini 2 should sell like the Fire phone?

Why do you think the Mini 2 will sell poorly?
