I get the same issue with titantv on how it just defaults to "mono" during recording. I haven't found any setting on how to change this.

But has anyone else had any trouble with titantv recently? When I tried to use it last night, I kept getting "Data not valid".

For everyone that has this card, some kinda cool/good news.

With this remote, you can program it to perform OTHER functions. (Winamp, play DVD's, etc.) But BE WARNED, I haven't used this program much yet, but it does seem rather difficult at first. And it's not as user-friendly as you might think.

But I'm sticking with it, in hopes that I can get it to perform all the functions that I want it to.

Girder

Hope this captures the attention of SOMEONE way at the end of the thread :D

Yeah, Girder is a great program (in fact im pretty sure its been mentioned in either this thread or another leadtek tv tuner thread earlier). It takes a little effort to learn, but if you can get the hang of it, its really useful and cool. In fact, I went throught the basic walkthroughs online, and thats proved to be more than enough for me; I can do pretty much everything I want with really basic and simple commands. I really haven't learned anything advanced in that program yet, but I hear it can do some amazing things. Ive been using it since Oct 2002 or so. Its pretty well supported with plugins, regurlarly updated, and the forums are also helpful.

Some cool things I've done with it:
1. make commands to launch the winfast tv PVR software or FM tuner....this way I can get rid of the uneccessary Winfast Wizard in the system tray
2. Using the XP OSD plugin for Girder I got a nice little setup with winamp: when I press a button, the On Screen Display plugin will display:
<playlist #/total playlist entries> | Artist - Title | <time elapsed: length of song>
3. Windows user switching command via the remote and screensaver via the remote

Of course I'm still waiting for my winfast TV Tuner card to come back from warranty service...so I haven't been using Girder for 2 weeks :(!

It just might be your Cable Signal. I have the same problem with some channels. On my TV it shows fine, but when I record things on my computer, it shows up with problems. Remember, that your monitor has a higher resolution than your tv, so you're gonna notice the "imperfections" more on a monitor. (For lack of a better word.)

(Did I answer that correctly? :D)

The wierd thing is.. It happens on both time warner and adelphia. I recently movied and noticed the samet thing on adelphia.. It looks really bad on my monitor.. Not sure what else to do.. To be honest, I haven't even watched anything on my computer due to the poor quality.

Hate to state the obvious, but when you right click in the tv window make sure the video is set to 'optimal quality'.

The only other thing I can say is that I have heard that having the FM wire plugged in at the same time can affect the TV tuner cable reception. One day I tried this, noticing my local ABC channel was getting horrible reception; I unplugged the FM reception cable from the card (leaving the TV cable plugged in) and sure enough my reception improved (not drastically, but noticeably).

Yup, it's already on optimal quality.. and the FM antenna is not plugged in.. Not sure what else is wrong :(

I'm still having problems with recorded audio. Audio is fine when just playing through the card but whenever I record a program, the playback is noisy. I tried various level setting all over the place but so far, no luck. I'm using a Shuttle SS51G. Anyone else use this combination ? TIA

Read the reviews of both at newegg.com and tell us what you decide. Good luck.

I had to reregister at TitanTV recently since I deleted all my browser cookies.

As far as the remote, Girder, etc., I don't find myself using the remote all that much. For one thing, when watching recorded TV, the remote is apparently useless for skipping commercials. I have to use my mouse to jump 2+ minutes. Since I'm that close to the mouse, I use my keyboard shortcuts (the arrow keys) to change channels and volume. There's not much more that the remote affords me. That's what I've found so far. If anyone has arguments with this or suggestions, etc., I'm all ears.

How is the quality of these things now? Is it anywhere near that of an actual TV yet? I have a Hauppauge PCI TV or something like that I bought about 3 years ago that has horrible picture. I have never used it becasue the picture is so bad. Would this be a good upgrade or has a better card came out since this post started? I am running Win XP. Also, are most of you still able to use your comuter normally while capturing video? I will have an Asus A7N8X Deluxe with a XP1700 at hopefully 2ghz, 512mb ram and a WD Raptor.

Thanks,
Brian

I tried watching my old TV last night and was highly disappointed. This card in combination with my new NEC FP2141 22" CRT on Baby Rigzilla (my sig) has me spoiled. My "old" JVC 20" TV (which at the time looked as good as any 20" TV I could find, and I rather think is about the same as what they're putting out today), looks very grainy in comparison. After all, that TV can't hold a candle to my monitor for resolution. Watching from around 7 feet (recommended distance) I can make out the "pixels" or whatever you call those things on a TV.

I can compute while the card's running, and recording, I presume, although I usually don't use the system when recording - just happenstance.

Well I'll disagree here...The remote works very well for me in my dormroom. Ive tested the range, and its pretty nice...a good 15ft or so and I don't always have to point the remote exactly at the IR receiver. I can control winamp from outside of my room (10-15ft away, pointing the remote at the receiver) or from my bed (pointing the remote nearly anywhere, 5ft away). I can watch tv or even movies in bed without having to go to my computer. Not to mention the coolness factor!

Some cool things:
1) Being able to activate your screen saver at the push of a button (don't have to wait for it to load)
2) When I log off (via the switch user option), I can still control winamp with my remote. This way my computer is locked, but anyone is still able to change tracks, and play music.
3) The XP OSD plugin for Girder is really cool!

new topic and if it's been addressed already i apologize

what's the best format to use when recording a tv show?

seems like .wmv is crappy...

mpeg-2 makes huge files...

what's recommended for something that's decent quality but not too big of a file for let's say an hour show

Well this kind of varies....some users can encode directly to a divx compressed format from a recording (I cannot do it with sports shows and other high motion shows).

Mpeg-2 provides some compression (and very good quality at optimal resolutions), but for some reason, due to the way the card encodes it, it is almost impossible to change into a divx format later without introducing serious audio sync problems.

So your best bet, and the most popular way of recording shows among leadtek tv tuner card users, is to record in uncompressed avi formats (really huge, but lossless files) and then encode later into a compressed divx, etc. format. Of course, this requires plenty of disk space.

I did UnCompressed AVI, and my audio/video were TOTALLY out of Synch. Whereas when I do Mpeg1/Mpeg2, the files are fine, and a lot smaller. And then when I try VirtualDub to convert those to Divx....NO GO. So, I guess I HAVE to stick to Uncompressed AVI for now, until I figure out another way.

Stoopid Noob question:

Does the card include an IR Blaster or the like to change the channels on my Satellite box? Does it work with Satellite?

I've been recording exclusively in "Optimal Quality" = MPEG2, but haven't tried converting to other formats. When I want to create smaller files I know I'll have to face a plethora of issues, but for now, I have lots of HD space and don't keep 99% of the stuff I record for more than a day. Thing is, I AWAYS have audio/video synch problems. Even when watching live TV I'd swear that the audio preceeds the video by a split second. My recordings have the same thing only considerably worse. It's not so bad you can't try to ignore it, but it's still a drag. I'd think there might be something that can be done about this. Does anyone have any ideas? Maybe there's even a utility that you could run that would allow you the delay the audio by a configurable discreet amount of time, say 1/4 second. It's all digital information. Technically, it has to be doable. Maybe we should all complain to Leadtek and they would fix the issue in a future version of the software.

Yeah, the only thing I can think of is newer releases of drivers/app.

Leadtek is set to release a new version of the card. New Card Here

Perhaps with the release of this new card they'll update the software all at once.
