don't buy them. leadtek 6800GT is poop. i bought one new and had to send it back because of artifacts in 2 machines i tried it in. the RMA i got would make one machine go black screen randomly and freeze and sometimes i'd have to power down for a few seconds to get it to even POST again. the other machine would have crazy lines like a channel on your TV just went weird and freeze. the 2nd RMA seems to be working fine so far.

oh.. FYI: i bought them NEW, not refurb.

I picked up one of these 6800GTs while it was selling for $210 (they previously had been selling for around $240). As others have said, it came in nearly retail condition in a retail box.

So far it seems to be working fine. I've been playing BF2 and Joint Ops on it without problems. Ran a few benchmarks like the 3DMark ones and Aquamark3.

The 2D quality seems slightly less than what I had with my Asus Ti4200. It seems to be slightly grainy, but then again, I'm running this on an old Hitachi 19" CRT. I can't be sure whether this is really an issue with this card or just something that I've started noticing.

I'm not sure how much credence to give the temperature monitor. This thing shows virtually no change in temperature whether I'm sitting at the desktop or playing a game. Typically about 53 deg C in a warm room (~78 deg F). Right now it shows 49 deg C in a 71 deg F room, so I guess it works.

Is there a good way to tell whether this card is underclocking itself when not running 3D apps and then speeding itself up for games? Aren't these 6800 series cards suppose to do that?

For what it might be worth, the BIOS for this card shows as version 5.40.02.15.

AndyD2K, that's their standard blurb for everything refurb. It's a crap shoot as to whether you get the accessories. For instance, just received two Asus refurb motherboards today. I got the motherboards in a white box. No manuals/drivers/cables, and more importantly no I/O shield. Basically you take your chances. Most of the time it doesn't matter, but sometimes it might. For instance, recently I considered purchasing a refurb Radeon 9600 All-In-Wonder card, but changed my mind because if the card did not come with the adaptor cable it would be completely useless as it does not have "normal" VGA/DVI outputs.

Guess we are up to 4-4. AndyD2K, are you feeling lucky? You have a 50% chance of getting a DOA card.

I'm pretty much waiting at this point to see how the 7800 is going to turn out. If there is still some left after tonight, then I think I may buy one ;)

Newegg's policy is that if someone returns a product they will sell it as refurbed. Many times I will send something back that is broken and see it on the refurb section. Initially the refurb section was a good deal...the last couple years it is mostly junk.

To those who made out...I am glad for you. Over the last 2-3 years I would say I am at about 50% good and the last two years about 20-25% good. Caveatemptor.

I got mine last thursday, and it was DOA this is the first time it happened to me from newegg. I bought 6 refurb items from newegg before and they worked flawless, but this one did not. It came in Retail box, beautifully packed with 2 DVD Games. Talked to newegg about this I RMA mine to Leadtek on saturday, lets hope they will send me a new one.

told ya. it's not because these are refurb, it's because the leadtek 6800s just straight up suck. i'm afraid to try and start gaming with the third one i got to be honest.

Now we are up to 5 DOA, 6 good.

I did the "RMA Repair" but likely I'll get a credit on my card. I'll probably just wait for either the eVGA 6800 deal to be in stock (current price $156 for a new card) or wait until mass availability of the 7000 series cards. That should drop prices of older cards, or allow me to get a newer chipset for same price point.

:| I'm gonna swear off Newegg refurb video cards. I'm now at three in a row that are DOA. Two of them are Rosewill Radeon 9600 256MB, and one of those is now past the 15 day warranty - my fault for not checking it earlier, still way too many DOA.

For everyone who has gotten DOA parts from Newegg refurb, you know what I mean. For everyone else, YMMV.

My friend got a 9700 pro refurbished for $170 on newegg when they retailed for like $250. It worked but it had too much artifacting with no overclocking... had to underclock from default speeds to make the artifacting go away.

Just got off the phone with Newegg support, managed to get an RMA number for the DOA Rosewill card from last month. Probably helped that I order probably over $10k/year with them and have been ordering from them since 8/23/2001 (says so right on page 46 of my order history).

I will continue to purchase from Newegg (even if they hadn't given me the RMA), but will definately avoid refurb video cards. Even in the past I've gotten DOA refurb video cards. Refurb motherboards have been fewer, but more were missing parts (such as I/O shield). RAM, think I had only a few DOA. Refurb hard drives have strangely been reliable, and I think I've gone through probably over 20. Barebones, mostly okay. CPUs have all been fine running default speeds.... Hmmm, maybe some seat-of-the-pants statistics:

Percentage of DOA parts from Newegg Refurb (varying sample numbers from a few to a few dozen over the years):
Video cards 40%
CPUs, HDD, cooling products, cases, HDD controllers, power supplies 0%
RAM, barebones 20%
motherboards 10%
everything else, no data

i got mines yesterday. so far no problems! upgraded from ti4600 so now i can play bf2! it came in full retail so i got the games and cables as well!

No, you must pay to send it back. They will pay the shipping to send you another card though.

Is this the shipping back toy you if you ask for a replacement or the shipping to them for the RMA? My understanding from talking to a rep is they do not cover shippig to them.

I must be a masochist. Bought a Leadtek 6800 new and it was DOA but this was too hard to pass up. Ordered today, should be here next week. I think I'm just going to RMA to leadtek if tis also DOA. What's their email? I just found a phone number for a Fremont, CA location.
