Leading GOP presidential candidate will create a database to track American Muslims

But still they call the free thinkers libtards, racists, bigots, weak and trying to experiment with American society and trying to make the America the laughing stock of the whole world.

My answer to that is, are they sure they're not talking about themselves?
Europe (like France) are actually the "laughing stock" of the world by letting that many muslims in unrestricted. We were until 9/11 hit and then we wizened up.

You can be 1/8 muslim and be considered safe. More than that and you'll need to be tracked.

Please report weekly to your local Muslim reformation office for classes on how to be more "American" and less Muslim. Featuring wonderful classes like how to use pork in traditional islamic cooking.

LOL,

Maybe if I go to NASCAR events it will wash away...

Not entirely correct.

"We" are only the laughing stock for those slightly mentally challenged folks who see a 100% relationship between the current refugee waves and those attacks.

France, Germany etc. "let in" many Muslims for 40 something years already.

Sorry that most people in EU are not *that* dimwitted, if the nr. of Muslims and general immigration would be 100% correlated to ISIS/terrorism we would have had attacks for DECADES already.

(Said differently: The fact that many are coming in now almost doesn't really matter on this background. Only someone who has a very simple view of things would relate the two things like "Ah! Told you so", referring to the current refugee wave/crisis and see a *direct* relationship there)

Here is his "official" response:

I didn't suggest a database-a reporter did. We must defeat Islamic terrorism & have surveillance, including a watch list, to protect America

Still didn't answer the question.

Sorry, no one is laughing at France or Europe.

Except perhaps Daesh or Al Qaida.

What the hell is wrong with you?

And since when have any of you known Trump to not say what he means. You could see he was easily distracted in the video. Not making excuses for him...that's his fault for not paying attention to the reporter asking the questions.

If he wanted a Muslim only database, he would say it. But it's much better to fantasize about this because it makes for news highlights. There's no changing anyone's minds about this anyway. Those who hate Trump will believe that he wants a Muslim database. The guy isn't going to get the nomination so it's not worth getting everyone's panties in a bunch anyway.

But it does certainly make for good entertainment watching people compare him to Hitler...like others comparing Obama to Hitler --- because that is a winning argument every time.

You have had attacks for decades.

E.g., I was in Europe in 1986 when the Berlin disco and Paris street bombings occurred.

Berlin bombings..long time ago, sorry only vague memories.

In spite of reports blaming Libya for the attack on the nightclub, no individual was officially accused of the bombing until the 1990 reunification of Germany and the subsequent opening up of the Stasi archives.[2] Stasi files led German prosecutor Detlev Mehlis to Musbah Abdulghasem Eter, a Libyan who had worked at the Libyan embassy in East Berlin. Stasi files listed him as an agent, and Mehlis said he was the Libyan spy agency's main contact at the embassy.[2]

Eter and four other suspects were arrested in 1996 in Lebanon, Italy, Greece and Berlin, and put on trial a year later. In 2001 Musbah Abdulghasem Eter, and two Palestinians, Yasser Mohammed Chreidi (or Yassar Al-Shuraidi or Yassir Chraidi) and Ali Chanaa were convicted in Berlin's Landgericht[5] of aiding in murder, and Chanaa's former German wife, Mrs Verena Chanaa, was convicted of murder. They were given sentences of 12 to 14 years in prison.[6]

Prosecutor Mehlis proved beyond reasonable doubt that the three men had assembled the bomb in the Chanaas' flat. The explosive was said to have been brought into West Berlin in a Libyan diplomatic bag.[7] Verena Chanaa and her sister, Andrea Häusler, carried it into the La Belle in a travel bag and left five minutes before it exploded.[2] Ms Häusler was acquitted because it could not be proved that she knew a bomb was in the bag.
Background to the bombing

The judge Peter Marhofer said it was not clear whether Gaddafi or Libyan intelligence had actually ordered the attack, though there were indications that they had. Two weeks before the La Belle discotheque blast, Gaddafi called for Arab assaults on American interests worldwide after a U.S.-Libyan naval clash in the Mediterranean, in which 35 seamen on a Libyan patrol boat in the western Gulf of Sidra were killed in international waters claimed by Libyan government.[1]

Chreidi was eventually extradited from Lebanon to Germany in connection with the bombing. He had been working for the Libyan Peoples' Bureau in East Berlin at the time of the bombing. Chreidi was said to have connections with Palestinian terrorist Abu Nidal, who used to live in Tripoli and was financed by Libya in the 1980s. Eter was reported to be the Libyan spy agency's point man at the embassy in East Berlin.[8][9]

Where do you see any indication that those attacks were in relation to any refugees or immigrants, or even Muslims who at the time lived (maybe born there even) in Germany? I DON'T SEE ANY.

In fact, this attack (as I learn here) by an employee who worked in the embassy...just proves there are many other ways how terrorists can commit terror.

Ironically, just now CNN has a piece on here saying that posing as a refugee "to enter a country for terrorism" would likely be the most difficult and risky thing for a potential terrorist to do. Yes, why should they?

You don't need to be an immigrant or refugee or even residing in a certain nation to commit a terrorist act. Just wanting to point out the idiocy of focusing on immigration/refugees here.

Trump usually says what he means. He hasn't clarified his position, which is unlike him. He is letting people run rampant with this story when all he has to say is he doesn't believe Muslims should be registered in a federal database. Why isn't he as blunt as he usually is here?

I am laughing so hard at this thread right now. HARD.
I am also a bit disheartened at the immense ignorance.

Has nobody been paying attention to current events in the past few years? Seriously. This is a forum on Anandtech for crying out loud.

The NSA's job is to: “Collect it All,” “Process it All,” “Exploit it All,” “Partner it All,” “Sniff it All” and, ultimately, “Know it All.”

Show of hands, who here believes that they aren't living up to that job mandate? Anyone? Bueller? Bueller?

If there are records out there that would even hint that anyone anywhere is either Christian, Catholic, White, Brown, Yellow, Vegan, Fat, Skinny, Crippled, Stupid, Smart, Mormon or Muslim,... those records have already been collected and archived.

There are no lists, that is not how the govt. snoops work. There are massive databases, and massive databases, and massive databases... ... ... and those databases are queried by inputting selectors. This is not a secret, this is NEWS and has been the NEWS for years now. This is also a tech forum so how does the ignorance pervade so deeply here.

Obama already presides over these agencies with these databases and everyone here who is outraged over Trumps statement believes that nobody at the NSA has ever been asked to input the selector "Muslim" or any selector that is closely associated with Muslim culture, etc?

Are you guys serious? Really?
This is embarrassing.

All I've seen him say about it is the reporter brought it up, not him. He did not deny that he would do it.

I guess you missed post #3😉

What's embarrassing is believing Government will keep you safe.

Might as well go dive back in Mommy's pouch.
