Leading GOP presidential candidate will create a database to track American Muslims

I suspect he will be the candidate as he's polling better against Clinton than the others.

I think a Carson/Rubio ticket could win in 2016

Any ticket with Carson on it has a near zero chance to win. I also give him a near zero chance at the GOP nomination. If he does happen to get it by some miracle though I will give anyone here at LEAST 5-1 odds against him winning.

He simply has far, far too many opinions that the average person in America would find frankly insane. He's been insulated from this by the GOP primary electorate who not only probably agree with him on a bunch of these things, but also thinks that the media is engaged in a conspiracy against him.

Clinton would slaughter him. It would not be pretty.

I think the government should implant a recording/transmitting device inside the head of everyone who enters the U.S. Actually, it should be the prerequisite for a visa, and should be implanted at birth for every native-born American. Those devices will transmit video and sound 24/7; we'll know EVERYTHING about EVERYONE. Terrorism and crime will become a thing of the past. Charged wirelessly. Attempting to disable the device will cause it do explode, destroying your brain.

Version 2 of the device will allow the government to transmit electronic signals directly into the brains of people, allowing the government to control thoughts and actions.

If we use massive government funding, we can develop these devices and get them implanted within 10 years.

Who needs freedom? I just want to feel safe.

I need to preface this with I'm not a Trump supporter. The news clip I saw last night he said he'd be open to a registry and its something we should look into. This is not him saying yes.
As I get older ideas like that scare me more. Where dies it end? What is the list used for? What benefit does keeping a list achieve?

Nope, he's all for it:

http://www.nbcnews.com/politics/201...d-certainly-implement-muslim-database-n466716

NEWTON, Iowa — Donald Trump "would certainly implement" a database system tracking Muslims in the United States, the Republican front-runner told NBC News on Thursday night.

"I would certainly implement that. Absolutely," Trump said in Newton, Iowa, in between campaign town halls.

"There should be a lot of systems, beyond databases," he added. "We should have a lot of systems."

When asked whether Muslims would be legally obligated to sign into the database, Trump responded, "They have to be — they have to be."

There was the initial conversation which started it. But he clearly has said he would do it. No ambiguaity to his comments.

Edit: Eski posted it. I am slow.

Just curious here, how will they determine who is Muslim??? What will the cutoff point be and who will make this determination.

Example, My father is Muslim, I was given a Arabic name. But throughout my life I've never been in an Islamic masque, never identified with any religion etc... Hell I eat pork and drink beer????

But someone will say "Oh hell, he is brown colored and his name is X, he's got to be a Muslim...."

WTF?

I saw a report about this on the Rachel Maddow show tonight and the first thought that occurred to me, was:

"What makes you think the government doesn't already have a database to track Americans in general (including religion in a person's profile)?"

I don't know the number, but I read somewhere that it was very large, the amount of people with over-extended visas. The government has no idea where they're at.

The idea is this database is kept by the FBI/CIA/NSA for information gathering and general espionage research. No one is required to self register, just if and when you become caught up in some criminal issue (federal level). Your name being on this list could potentially require them to take a closer look.

What Trump is proposing will cause further discrimination of the Islamic population within the US. Who will have access to the database/etc....

And there you go! We have a winner!

You don't. So you watch them all.

Then, first you better make some other lists - all white protestant males (Sandy Hook, Columbine, Aurora Theater, Tucson, ...), black males (just the murder rate in Chicago for starters), Asian males (Blacksburg, VA - 33 people dead at the university).

There are plenty of f'd up individuals in this country who for one reason or another, are willing to kill people. Why are some people willing to put more of an emphasis on murders committed in the name of one particular religion - and not by the mainstream in that religion, but by some fanatical extremists - why is that getting all of the attention, when, other than 9/11, it's responsible for only a trivial percentage of the murders in this country?

Your confusing the "Republican Way" with the "American Way"

Right now they are two different ideologies.

Trump is saying all this just for votes. He's not actually gonna deport mexicans and register muslims, he's just playing on the fears and xenophobia which he knows is fast growing in the gop base.

Dont be so sure about that. Trump has an ego. He needs to feed it. But if he gets into office and does nothing, he is going to piss off a hell of a lot of people. Those people are going to hate him forever. He doesnt care if some people hate him. But the left, the FSA (Free *Stuff Army) they are already going to hate him. If he doesnt hold true then everyone is going to hate him. It's not going to happen. It's bad for profits. There wont be any Apprentices in his future. It would probably cause all his businesses to lose money in the long run.

You can be 1/8 muslim and be considered safe. More than that and you'll need to be tracked.

Please report weekly to your local Muslim reformation office for classes on how to be more "American" and less Muslim. Featuring wonderful classes like how to use pork in traditional islamic cooking.

We never know which Christians may decide to bomb abortion clinics or shoot abortion doctors so we should watch them all.
This stance always cracks me up

Well if we go to one irrational extreme we better go to the next one.. see my point!! see my point!!!

Making a tracking database for them is a dumb idea, period.

The SJW unfairness for all hyperbole argument is so old it qualifies for AARP now.

The number of them is in 1000s, we're talking about 1,000,000s here..

Now the real question is... how do you know which ones are radical?

Ever hear of our no-fly list and terrorist watch list?

no fly list has ~40,000 names. The terrorist watch list has ~400,000 unique individuals and ~1,000,000 alias.

BTW I saw the Democrats are out in force to deny second amendment rights to anybody put on the terrorist watch list. No due process. Lets strip their rights because the govt claims them as potentially dangerous.

Both parties are out of their fucking minds right now.

Oh you played the SJW card. Well that certainly hasn't been used around here before.

I agree, this is the rare case where the NRA has a valid point. The terrorist watch list is maintained at the sole discretion of the government and it is nearly impossible to get your name off of it. (is it possible at all?) If you're going to lose a constitutional right it has to be based off more than that.

This proposed tracking of Muslims by Trump is also insane. Just so people dont think I am picking on Democrats.

So did anyone actually watch the video and pay attention to the audio? Trump never directly said what you think he said. It's great to twist words to make him say this because if he truly believes in tracking all Muslims via a database, it is an instant lose. Early on in the interview, he went right into building the wall and managing those that want to come to the country illegally. Then the interviewer asked if "it" would be part of his administration. "It" should refer to the last thing Trump mentioned --- the wall. But never let grammar get in the way of a good story. And near the end of the interview, he was asked the question again and didn't answer it this time. Might be some concern there for those that support Trump.

And for all those people so threatened by Trump, have no fear. He is not going to be the nominee despite what the polls say. So all those sad little souls with all those pet names for Trump can stop worrying. The only polls that matter haven't been done yet --- the voting booth.

Did you read the rest of the thread? He was asked later and explicitly said he supported it.

While I agree he won't be the nominee, it's not going to be due to anti Muslim bigotry.

Yes. I was going to add to the post but instead of editing..I'll respond here. He did go on about it but still indirectly.

To me, it is just another day of smearing until I hear Trump's official, clarified response. If his official stance is that he truly supports a Muslim database, shame on him. This is not a value that anyone should hold. But him getting asked questions while signing autographs and looking like he is not paying much attention just shows how easy he can be suckered into saying yes to questions. It happened before at events and it will probably continue to happen with him. This is where he always gets caught up in scandal...besides some of the other words that flow out of his mouth during rehearsed speeches.
