I like the sound of "gamma knife". I think I want one :^D
It's quite interesting. They beam a minimum of three planes of radiation into the brain and where they intersect receives the deadly dose destroying the carcinoma, blood vessels and, small surrounding tissue. Then, Friday they will surgically remove the lesions. After they clear up the brain, they will schedule the resection of my left kidney. The Mayo has been very impressive. Coordination between departments has been awesome.

MTB it sounds like the whole thing is not very intrusive. I'm glad to hear you aren't told to stand on your head do back flips while the nurse takes your temperature out of your ass.

It's definitely been a whirlwind adventure so far. I report to the hospital at 5:30 am tomorrow. Get MRI, framework attached to head, cool my heals while they plan the procedure, get zapped and then, observed. I'm supposed to be done about 12:15 or 12:30.

I don't even drink anymore, but I'm now going to toast a Belgian honey ale in honor of your impending success tomorrow.

Slainte mhath!

I love the unintended pun. May the heals be with you tomorrow, Magnus!

I'm done with the gamma knife radiation and feeling fine. I have tomorrow off and go for neurosurgery Friday to remove the largest lesion. They've decided to leave the two smaller alone as the radiation seems to have done the job and would be less invasive. I'll be in the icu after surgery and will probably be out Monday. Then, the left kidney resection will be scheduled. Still feeling good.

I've completed my surgery to remove the one tumor and all cells were removed. The tumor had shrunk and the two supplying blood vessels have been removed. No complications are foreseen. I will get out of icu tomorrow morning and move to general recovery. I had ice cream and Jello.

Very good. Hope they serve some decent food there.

Two scoops?
Seriously, I am really glad that the surgery went well.

Sounds like things are moving along really well. Here's hoping that continues right up until you're disgustingly healthy.

Well, they want me back at the Mayo on Thursday for "systemic therapy" which I take to mean opdivo. I've asked the medical oncology doctor but, haven't heard back yet. Thing is opdivo is usually proscribed after surgery or other treatment has failed but, I haven't received any yet. I just went back to work today so, the timing sucks but, at least I'm moving forward.
