LCD Monitor issues (Benq FP93GX)

I bought this monitor from Newegg about a month ago.

When scrolling on AR15.com quickly I see flashes of Magenta, only on AR15.com I think it has to do with the light background. I've also noticed when scrolling smoothly I can see text ghosting. This thing has a 2ms response time and find this to be inexcusable, correct me if I'm wrong.

I understand the fallacies with the reponse time but I still should not have text ghosting.

Now this is where it gets strange and indicates a problem. When I turn AMA off which is basically lowering the voltage so the pixels respond slower, both problems above either cease to exist (magenta issue) or are almost unobservable but I notice more blurring in games, where I don't notice any abberations in games while AMA is on.

Sounds like an AMA problem. Any help or insight?

Fuggin' weird!

Changed display drivers, after browser change yielded no difference and now I still have ghosting while AMA is on but things are tinted cyan while scrolling instead of magenta....

It's not like the whole screen turns the color just a tint shows up.

I tested my g/f's crap Dell monitor and it doesn't ghost on text this bad... hers is like a blurring black... this is like a true ghost, whitish halo of the test trailing behind when scrolling smoothly.

ETA: If you scroll just right and read fast... you can read the text the ghosting is so bad when black letters are used on a grey background.

ETA2: Friend actually packed up the computer so I couldn't test it out on his computer but when I adjust the brightness/gamma in the Nforce drivers it changes from cyan to red on AR15.com.

ETA3: Just tested in Word using a grey background and the ghosting was just as bad, so it is completely unrelated to the browser/AR15.com specifically. Just happened to occur there due to forum layout.

ETA4: Just did some experimenting with DVI/VGA input, issues are the same on both. Althought the magenta/cyan issue doesn't seem to be quite as noticeable.

Odd. It's obviously the RTC chip (Advanced Motion Accelerator) overshooting the voltage too high on the pixels. Very common problem. It only happens on certain combos of color. I've noticed my ghosting (different LCD) is unusually bad with that webpage too. Just that weird grey-to-grey transition but mine doesn't have any color overshoots, it just streaks a little more. That's prime territory for errors if the RTC chip isn't smart enough to ignore overdrive there (it would be much better off). But the FP93GX got pretty good ratings for this.

Tests of BenQ FP93GX's RTC error here: http://www.xbitlabs.com/articles/other/display/19inch-4_9.html

Where exactly on AR15.com does it happen?

So you can turn AMA off? I didn't even know that. Does it streak much in that area with AMA off?

It's very odd it changes from magenta to cyan though. You mean a streak effect like this, correct? Except cyan/magenta/bright and worse?

It's the worst in AR15.com when you click in an individual board, like General Discussion or AR15s. When each topic has it's own separate grey box around it.

When I turn AMA off I only get a slight amount of blur on text instead of this actual ghosting.

Damn I wish my girlfriend had her digital SLR here.

Now with AMA on, it looks similar to the screenshot you posted except much worse, as I said if you scroll just right you can read/at least recognize the text as a whole.

Adjusting in the Nforce drivers changes the "flashes" from magenta to cyan and back....

Just did some experimenting with the monitors contrast adjustment and found that the magenta/cyan problems had peaks and troughs depending on which is was at so I found a place where it's not bad at all. Still concerned about the text ghosting.

Any other FP93GX owners at there that can testify on this issue?

I turned off cleartype and still got the same results when the brightness/contrast are in a certain combination.

RIght now I'm just adjusting one a notch at a time until it goes away, (magenta issue).

Didn't check on the ghosting....ghosting is the same with cleartype on or off, just checked.

What "refresh rate" do you recommend for LCDs?

Oh, running at 60 Hz will certainly minimize any AMA complications. 75 Hz has been known to cause problems with these chips so that's a first debugging step.
