Gateway is VA - which means washed out looking IMO. Lower veiw angles. I'm not sure what you're looking for but I did'nt like it when I saw it. What's wrong with the Dell 2005?

really nice topic, but you should alsos talk about the fears of dead pixels, Which companies do or don't have it the most and which compaines to the most about it.

Also, mentioning what the diff is between XGA screens and the xtrabright technology.

Not sure if this has been brought up yet, but between the Samsung 940B and the VP930b, which would be more ideal for extreme gaming and better quality picture? Less backlight leaking and such...I'm leaning toward the VP930 simply because of it being an 8 bit monitor.

(I'm saying this as an owner of the VP930b.) The Samsung 940B will have less backlight bleeding. It's a known problem on the VP930b, and obvious on the VP930b compared to my old Samsung 710T. For gaming, the 940b might have less artifacts and it will have less blurring overall. Gaming was a much enjoyable experience on my 710T (TN), and still is on my VP930b, but I'd recommend the 940b for gaming. I wouldn't worry about 8-bit for gaming.

To the OP, the VP930b is a true 8-bit panel. In the OP it says ?-bit.

I'm almost positive its an 8-bit. Also the X-light thing is there and I love it regardless.

We're not sure if it's 8-bit now. Some artifacts have been seen in colors.

would somebody know if the new LG.Philips LM201U05 20" panel's real.life response time could be comparable to the panel in Nec 20WGX², that every review so far presents as the new king? It looks like the only 2 monitors that use that panel are BenQ FP2092 and LG L2000C, and possibly the newly introduced NEC LCD2090UXi.

they sell that benq here for a fairly good price, LG one hasnt made it here yet

excellent first contribution... a lot of us have been looking for this information.. (the exact LG/philips panel part numbers for the new AS-IPS's)

Obviously the LM201W01 is the NEC's being it's 1680x1050 pixels like the new NEC - while the LM201U05 is the L2000C and maybe the benQ you mention as it's 1600x1200 pixels..

edit: i'm concerned you think the FP2092 is AS-IPS like the link taks about..I checked for you.. I bet it's PVA as it states 12ms response which is in line with PVA tech..The LG L2000C is 8ms like LM201U05 is supposed to be.. The NEC LCD2090UXi seems to be old tech S-IPS as they list 16ms reponse... more research needed obviously but I'd hold off until you're certain.



DAR- see! both two 20's and a WS 23" there..should be coming down the pike soon in retail product for ya in all flavors🙂 I'm 100% sure now L2000C 16x12 is next gen AS-IPS thanks to roisins link. Yea, I know... Dammit! I want one know! 😛 I called LG Poland today and the morons didn't even know where and IF the monitor would be available here. Ridiculous. The dude said "yes, we are considering selling some 20" displays but please check the site in 1-2 months". ROFL.

Looks like I have three options:

- grab the small and glossy NEC LCD20WGX2;
- stick with my CRT and wait for the LG L2000C which might take forever;
- stick with my CRT and wait for a 23" 6 ms widescreen which might take forever as well;
- grab the angle-dependent, color-inferior and possibly even less responsive Samsung 204B.

Decisions, decisions...

Hmm.. Well dead pixels can show up anywhere (though less widespread today). All the companies seem to have the same horrible policy about them but I'll link to a matrix of policies if I can find it.

XGA is a connotation for 1024x768 and the contrast technologies are discussed under OptiClear.
