I just bought a new LCD monitor from Newegg and there is a blemish on the screen. I don't know the technical term for it, banding maybe? It's very noticible and distracting when I watch movies that are dark. It's a small blemish that is in the middle of the screen up top about 1 1/4 inches long.
I'm wondering if there is a software that will let me fix this or I have to send it back to Newegg for a replacement? Is this thing common on LCDs? I've tried taking pics of it, but it's very tough to detect it in pictures.
Update, just got it.
I finally was able to take a pic of it, it's not very good but it shows this mark somewhat. Here it is. It's on the right of Peter Moore's head.
Another update.
I just asked Newegg to get a replacement for me, but they're giving me the runaround. Here's what they wrote back to me
"Unfortunately, as stated on our website in order for us to provide you with a replacement, you need to have 8 or more dead pixels. Therefore, we recommend you to contact the manufacture, to see if they can further assist you. If they do not assist you with a replacement, or assistance on how improving the view on the monitor, please contact us and provide us with a reference number from the manufacture, showing that you have contacted them already."
I asked for a replacement from newegg once before for a hard drive that failed but I canceled that because I use the freezer trick to recover info and I thought that would disqualify me. So, I don't really know how to handle this. I know people here like newegg and use them more than me. What do I do now?

I called Newegg customer service earlier today. They said the only way they can replace my LCD is if it has dead pixels which doesn't apply to me. So, I have to get a replacement from the manufacturer. I have never done this before, do you know how long it might take? The company I bought my LCD from is named Chimei, it's located in Taiwan. I would prefer to do this through Newegg, but I have no other options at this point.
